I just thought I should mention, the graph showing the sealed box rolling off at 50 to 60 hz, that is PERFECT for use in a car, as it matches the 6 db per octave or so rising response most cars have.

For the people putting 2 and 4 woofers in there cars, do you have a clue at how loud that is going to be? Its not going to win any contests, but it would only be like 6 db or so behind and that is VERY loud. Also for 4 you really should use a pair of the EL1500 or EL2150 amps.

You are right mikeford. But, most people out there have come acustomed to the boomy bass, and WANT that extra gain in the low end. If you are really into high fidelity, and not high volume, that might not be a bad idea. For $15, it doesn't hurt to experiment. Personally though, I like the extra boost in the low end. I can just throttle it down with the EQ when its not needed or desired.

Everybody isn't SPL over SQ, and true SPL nuts aren't even going to look at this deal, it isn't JL etc. that it takes to win contests.

Drop this 12" sub in a cheap $25 1 cubic foot sealed box, and drive it with one of these $25 to $55 amps and its going to KICK if you want it to. It will also be fairly happy with a crossover to the other speakers between 75 and 125 hz, which isn't going to work with those fancy boxes.

Personally I bought a 12", a 10", and a powered 8" in a tube, and plan to give each a try before I decide which to use.

Hey dude, sorry about calling your bluff (which wasn't true ), but I was just testing you out . In any case thank so SO VERY MUCH for taht site and you got nothing but my best wishes in completing the system. I can prolly speak on behalf of everybody here when I say that hopefully a .wav or .mp3 file will be recorded to at least showcase this system . Again, thanks for all the help, I am GREATLY in your debt and GREATLY appreciate all your help as well as mikeford's and GengisTom and everybody else who posted. GL to everybody with their preferred setups.

I'm sorry to report, but at this time, I'm pretty sure that I am unable to hook up the EL1500 to my friend's system since he is being anal about how hard it to disconnect his amp and connect mine up. I seriously want to kick that whining b*tch's @$$, but I will hold back my anger. Again, this thread rocks, literally! And thank you to all your help and I hope everyone posts updates accordingly as their system conforms into the beasts that intend it to be .

The site was very helpful, but I am still unsure with what kind of setup to truely go with with 2 12's. Would one 6th pass and one sealed be a good idea to sorta get a wider frequency range like how Filez is setting up his home stereo? In other words, what's the best way to do this. Is making two singles boxes any more beneficial than creating one dual box? Thanks guys.

DjBaMBaM, If you are wanting to put these speakers in a car, I would recommend a 2 cubic foot box tuned to 40Hz for each speaker. This is Bazooka's recommended configuration, and for a car, it really is about the best I have been able to model. If however, you want to put these in a house, and you have lots of room, then you might think about one 6th Order box, and one vented box. The reason for the different recommendations for car vs. House is the required Box size. A 6th order box with one sub requires 7 Cubic Feet!!! That's a pretty big box. Too big for a car, (unless you want to remove the back seat.) Even for a home, You might think about using the vented box. To go with both box types you should really use an electronic crossover to seperate the speakers. Besides, most music, (even Rap Music) only goes down to about 35-40 Hz. There is some stuff out there that is used to test your speakers that will go all the way down to 20Hz and there is some classical music (like Organ Music) that will go that low but, it is rare. I think the Vented Box will cover 95% of what you would listen to anyway.

Good Luck

Okay thanks GengisTom! Actually, lol, my whole plans have slightly changed....sorta for the better I want to think. As I mentioned before, I bought 5 12's (4 for me and 1 for a friend). Initially, I was going to put 2 in my car and strap those puppies to a 1500 and get some nice speakers and strap them to the 460, but now I want to do this...I want to put all 4 subs in my car! Lol am I crazy?! I think FilezZ sorta influenced me a bit with his massive home theatre system so it got me thinking. What if, and believe me this is a big what if, I just put all 4 subs in my car? Hahah I can't help but think about what kind of beast my system could be! With this in mind I was wondering, since I have a 1500 already, would I have to buy a 2nd one and somehow daisy chain them together while running all 4 subs in parallel? Also would I need a cap? What other configs. would change? And generally, ultimately, would this setup be worth it in terms of sound or is just for cool factor? Would 3 be more feasible? All these questions and more...answered! when someone knowledgable replies . Lol j.k., but seriously thanks for all the help guys, I hope you can help clear my heads of all these EVIL and rampid thoughts...

My subs aren't coming until Dec 6, but I was wondering what kind of enclosures you guys will be using. I got the EL 2150 amp and will be using 2 of the 12" subs. I want something in the middle (good clear punches but enough deep rumbling). Any recommendations of what type of box to get?

I having my friend use this as a teaching case for me. He said he would run all the lines and hook everything up. I was wondering what to get since CC has the MTX dual 12" unloaded sealed enclosure. With the MSN savings the enclosure looks like an OK price from what I've seen (it's $69.99 online now). Would this be a decent enclosure for this sub? Would this amp put out enough juice for a sealed enclosure, or should I get a vented.

I'm planning on putting this in my Ford Contour which is roughly the same size as a Toyota Corolla.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Referto the post GengisTom made 4 posts up. He explains to me the best kind of box to make for 2 12's. Too badI don't have an update for you guys. I'mof course waiting for an update from FilezZ, but our time will dome . I'm actually in a tough position right nowregarding my multimedia car setup and if anybody can recommend me either a on-dash or in-dash lcd screens, taht would be great. I found some herebut I am unsure of the quality (posted on a FW wallet awhile back with no replies). I sorta need either an fm tuner and/or a tv tuner built into the lcd screen. Havn't made up my mind yet. Thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

Well, I think the hot deal is over. They only have the 10" subs at returnbuy now for 14.99, plus the cost of shipping, plus $7.99 for a 1 year warranty. I'm not sure if anyone is going to go back and buy anything there anymore, but I'll say that I'm glad we got in on this deal when we did (even if I did pay 14.99 instead of 9.99)

I was at Circuit City today and they are selling the 12" subs (CSW model) for $89.99 for a pair (sale price until Saturday) or $69.99 for one so the deals we got were still excellent in my mind.

yes you can make a system pound off the stock radio. what you will need is the RCA speaker wire converter, a nice powerful amp(Rockford,Soundstream,Kenwood,Mcintosh, etc),and sub(s). the bass wont hit as tight as it would with a aftermarket headunit but it will pound!! this all depends on the amp and watts(some amps have pure power and others claim to have a high wattage output but is overrated) and how many subs/size.

Still just curious, so far NOBODY from here has gotten the 100th customer free deal? Seems kinda odd.

I think I am about to go hardcore on my door speakers, looking at a set of Focal components, pretty great deal at Zalytron for $129.

Well,

For those of you that have been following FileZz's Home Theater, the first 16 - 12" subs went in this weekend. All I can say is "OH MY GOD!!!!!"

It hits Sooooooo Hard.

I have heard louder systems in a car but, This is at least as loud as the loudest club I have ever been in.

With this many subs, we are only driving each sub with about 68.75 watts (1100 Total) so there is about zero chance of blowing the subs. At max power, even at 20 Hz, there is only moderate movement of the subs.

We tested them down as far as 15 Hz. They put out some serious output even at that low frequency. Of course, you can't hear frequencies that low but you can feel the Earth Quake as it hits 7.0 on the Richter scale, not to mention the house sounds like it is about to come apart.

Its pretty awsome to say the least.

More pictures have been posted at http://168.28.245.109/filez/

Check it out.

2x4's in the wall flex 1" each direction.. Its a site to see and hear.. This is only 16 of the subs. Looks like we may do some sort of horn load.. It should really be loud when the other 16 subs are installed.. each battery of 16 subs will have 1200 watts RMS..

Make sure to have a look at the first 16 subs installed in the wall.. http://168.28.245.109/filez/

he Richter scale, not to mention the house sounds like it is about to come apart.

Who's idea was it to build it into the wall? What a waste, like you siad, it sounds like the house is falling apart. I think a "freestanding" section would have been the best bet.

From my experience it's not a good idea. I have had friends wall literally fall apart from their projects. Last summer a friend and I did an idea something like yours but with two 15"s on each side of the room. It made everything from the fan to the light bulbs, to everything rattle. We were laughing at how the upstairs toilet water was "shimmering" when the bass hit. Just too rattley.

Don't get me wrong it was fun, just trying to give you a heads up.

I got a service net contract for $7.99 on each of my (3) $9.99 12" subs.
Has anyone else received this repair contract? Has anyone cancelled their contract and got the refund, thus getting the refurb speakers for $2 each?

If so, let me know how you did it. I'm wondering if I just have to call the toll free number.

Thanks for the updates guys! I know we got a 1 yr serice contract waiting for us, but any more info is appreciated. I don't know what else to say. I'm in school right now so I can't do jack until mid-December when I go back home and get a chance to work on my system.
