... have to watch for a good deal on a new case... this old plain beige box just doesn't look fast enough anymore.

i think if u weld some fins and add a Turbo button on it, it will definitely increase your speed...

imo.

I am glad to read that everyone likes the MB. I still have mine in the box waiting on the XP 1800 RTL BOX from Newegg. Also ordered 512 MB Crucual.

I'm also putting together another Anandtech hotdeal box. Got this motherboard and ordered two sticks of Crucial 256mb 2100 DDR ram and I'm waiting on my XP1600 from newegg. Last time I bought a motherboard I paid $130+ Amazing the money you can save by waiting 6 months and buying 2nd generation chips and boards which aren't a whole lot slower than the new stuff but at less than half the price!
Interesting how the motherboard manufacturers popularity fluctuates. A couple of years ago Abit and Asus were the hot boards and I bought the Abit BE6-II board with the everpopular celeron 566 overcloced to 850mhz. Combo is still going strong as my linux play box. A year ago when I built my first AMD box, Iwill was the hot board and Abit was getting some negative response from the overclocking crowd. Anyway, back to Abit for me. At $53 shipped, super deal!

Love this Anandtech Hot Deals!

Ohhhh yeahhhh baby. With some fins, a little chrome and pin stripes... maybe lower it a couple of inches too. This'll be one hotrod machine

maybe someone can answer this question for me, I will have to return my board for an exchange because I was having some issues with it , I know that I have to pay to send it back, do I also have to pay to have them send me another board? If that is the case I think I will just ask for a refund and take the 15% restocking fee!
Thanks.

Any one know if this mobo is better at overclocking than
the MSI K7T266 Pro-RU mobo(the one included in the AMD XP giveaway)?? I want to overclock my amd 1800+
and build another system, but I need to know which board to do it in.

Thanks!

I'd actually recommend something like MSI KT3 ultra. I got my 1600+ into 1900+ territory with the KG7 but I hear that it's not uncommon to see 2100+ performance with the MSI. I'm still pretty happy with mine but wished it would have clocked a bit higher, especially since 6 channel onboard sound for MSI is worth more to me than RAID.

OK guys, I need some help here... I suppose I should post this on another forum, but since this is a topic on this mobo I might as well ask here as well.

I installed the CPU, installed the mobo, put in the memory, and put my HDD in the thing......

...oh, the Vid card too.

In any case, when I try to boot up to Win98, the system crashes halfway through the bootup procedure, or just after I get into windows. With Win2K the crash can occur during the bootup process, or about five, six seconds after it enters win2k. The crashes range from just a complete system freeze to a complete system freeze with the screen getting garbled.

What's odd is that DOS works just fine. Booting up from a floppy with Dr Dos on it, I was able to flash the bios so thtat I could use my 1800+.

I haven't tried reinstalling Windows, though I thought that it was an unnecessary procedure. What am I doing wrong, or are the components at fault?

(I had to realign the heatsink/fan for the CPu a few times, but the difference in heat dissipation shouldn't come into play THAT quickly, should it?)

Thanks for any help,

Muu

i assume u have a dual boot since u said u have not reinstalled the OSes yet comment on win98 and win2k.
Yes, the best and most fullproof procedure is to reinstall the OSes...since with those lower than winXP u do NEED to install
the amd and via drivers...some of them. u can check your PC health in bios...just to be sure its at a nice temp.
Even if it had worked, i would recommend a reinstall of OS just to get the best performance on the new board and to make
sure all peripherals are correctly configured.

u forget this thread is based on the cheap Abit board and also because of the coupon. Sure there are better boards out there,...but they also cost more. The other thing is, similar to u, i also have my 1600+ in the 1900+ territory..a 'better' board will not necessarily push your cpu higher...i mean heat management becomes more of an issue. I have an el-cheapo volcano6u so i'm happy with 1900+. i have managed to push past 2000+ but it would crash under extreme burn-in unless i upped the vcore more than i like...but if i had a better case and heatsink/fan...i am pretty sure my cpu would make 2000++ easy. A supposed better board will not help at this stage...u would need better cooling, ventilation, perhaps even better peripherals...like a more oc friendly videocard, ram...etc.
