one of the forum members ask me to update my progress
old rig
3.0C p4 478 running at 3.6ghz 240FSB 1:1 1gb pc3700 OCZ ram, abit is7
new rig
X2 3800+, 2gb crucial ballistiks, asrock 939 running at 2.4 ghz 1:1 240 FSB, manchester chip
anyway the X2's are VERY nice chips as most can attest to also
I have the asrock 939 dual sata board, which is a nice starter board --it has limitations, but overall the price/performance helps ease the cost transition to the expensive X2 chips
anyway
overall multitasking is all its cracked up to be
I can surf the internet, decode a dvd, have photoshop open, and un-winar as much as 10 files without a hiccup
I dont game, but as far as a office/business pc things chips really do what HT was not really able to do "in the real world" IMO
so IMO the X@ 3800+ is the perfect price point, espeically if you can get a toledo
but evem with my manchester, I popped it in, uppded the Vcore to 1.4,and upped the FSB to 240
and its been on running for two three weeks straight so while Id like to have theexta cashof the 4400 X@, considering what I paid, id take the 3800+ any day over thehigher end chips
I was waitng so long to move up to dual processing,a s I almost bought a G5 apple, butim glad I waited for the 3800+ as they run VERY cool, (45@C at full load)
I was suprised my ballistik ram worked in the asrock board since the max voltage is 2.7-2.8V
I cant really oveclok the timings to toghter than stock on this board, but thats dude to the lack of voltage
the chip I have definitely has more available, but the lck of ram voltage is limiting a bit
also I have a scythe ninja, heatsink, and these things are SWEET!! albeit large , but they do fit if someone is interested
