42 amps? huh?

18Ax3 = 54A

are you refering to the seasonic unit?

(very nice PS regardless! )

the combined max output of the 12v rails is 504W(per Antec spec), equaling 42A. I have yet to see a PSU where the combined output is the sum of the individual rails. This also applies to multi-channel amplifiers.

If you have in inefficient psu and leave your pc on 24/7, the NeoHE will probably pay for itself in less than a year. :thumbsup:

I bought the NeoHE 550 a few months ago from Fry's for $50 AR. It uses roughly 50 watts less, according to my UPS monitoring software, than my (original model with green fan) OCZ PowerStream 550w.

Here's the formula:

50w / 1000 (1kWhr) * .15 (cents per kWhr) * 24 (hours in a day) * 30 (days) = $5.40 savings per month

No point in arguing, last review I came across showed only one real rail anyways. Ive been running one for a month now. A little testy to get started initially, had to replug the motherboard connected to start it. But has been rock solid and quiet ever since.

I picked up 6 of these a few months back. Fairly quiet and of decent quality. I had one pop and blow sparks out the back on boot-up in what was not user error.

It was running a single core A64 with 1 disk drive and integrated video so no I did not throw 2 8800 GTXs at it

I have always used Antec PS's. However I have never seen another brand get this much bad press over on HardOCP forums. Because of that I have decided to steer clear of Antec PSUs.

Frys has the 500 watt Neohe for $60 + tax. Are they basically the same unit? If I only run 1 video card, 1 hd, and 1 opitcal drive will I need the extra power?

The 500 Watt Neo HE is enough for an 8800GTS, two hard drives, one optical drive and a little bit of over-clocking. They're the same unit yes. The 500 has 38 amps and the 550 has 42 amps.

I would go with the 500 if you have a Fry's near you.

I got an Antec Earthwatts 500W PSU from Frys a few weeks back for $50 AR. It actually is a rebadged Seasonic... so I'm reliably told. These NeoHE get a lot of bad press. Very unreliable.

Thanks! I was hoping it was also a rebadged seasonic. I will probably make a side trip out there today or tomorrow.

From JonnyGuru's PSU Recommendations for High End Gaming PC's Third Tier:

Antec Trio/NeoHE/EarthWatts product line

* Built by Seasonic, but not the same build quality as above Seasonics
* NeoHE is modular
* Trio 650W is 7950 GX2 Quad SLI certified
* NeoHE 550W is X1900/X1950 Crossfire certified
* 700W is 7950 GX2 Quad SLI certified
* 5 year warranty

Not rebadged...unfortunately. Built by Seasonic but to Antec's lower quality specs.

How does this compare to the Antec Trio TP3 550? I got the Trio on sale at Fry's for $60 before $30 MIR but haven't opened it yet. I plan to have it in an Antec 900 case and will have a fairly full computer (no SLI though).
