Even better:
1) Buy the drive BEFORE 2/16/03 (i.e. TODAY or TOMORROW) at CompUSA for $349.99 (
as listed here).
2) BVG PM it to GoogleGear for a bigger PM amount (i.e. $102 PM)
3) Go back to CompUSA on 2/16 or 2/17 w/ your receipt. The drive will be on-sale those two days only for $349.99 - $50IS - $120MIR (
see this thread for details). Refund and re-purchase the drive to qualify for the new price and the MIR.
$349.99 - $50IS - $120MIR - $102PM =
$78!!! (plus sales tax on $299.99)
Note: I don't have BVG, so I don't know exactly how it works. In the event Amex checks to see if the item you're BVG'ing has been returned, circumvent their ability to do so as follows:
a) When you purchase the $350 WD drive, purchase some other "temporary item" (your safest bet is a $350 item, but $50+ should do)
b) When you go back to CUSA on Sun/Mon for your CUSA PM, only return the $350 WD drive (and have it re-rung up at the $300 sale price).
Do not return the "temporay item" that day!
c) Return your "temporary item" 10-14 days after you've purchased it (CompUSA has a 14 day return policy). The 10-14 days gives you time to file your BVG claim and hopefully have it approved.
d) In step b, by having a different refund amount than your orignal purchase appear on your Amex, you can claim that it was a refund of something else. If you purchase a $350+ temporary item, you can claim it's a refund of the temporary item.
*EDIT*
In the event CompUSA rings up a REFUND and RE-PURCHASE in the SAME TRANSACTION, the "circumvention" above is not needed. The only new charge that'll appear on your card is a refund of $50 + sales tax.
