Trike, THe attbi speed is worse then the one you currently using.
It's 1.5Mb down 128k up.

Is the monthly fee included the cable modem lease fee?
if i buy my own cable modem, will i pay less?

Those of you in the Minnesota covered areas..this is very hot!!

Even though AT&T bought out MediaOne, all my e-mail, my DNS, my newsgroups, etc. are all under 'mediaone' yet. The original backbone links that MediaOne has are also still existent and fully functional. Those of us in Minnesota enjoy some of the best broadband out there, and I have had no troubles from AT&T even after the switch. I consistently have 2Mbps down and 384kbps up. Extremely speedy, and no complaints here, except that they did raise the monthly fee.

It makes their cable tv service less attractive (which is very expensive). As far as when they raised the broadband prices, it used to be $40/m for cable tv subscribers and $50/m for non cable tv subscribers, but now it's $47/m for cable tv subscribers and $50/m for non cable tv subscribers.

Yes.

<< if i buy my own cable modem, will i pay less? >>

About $10 less, yes.

FYI to those considering this deal, watch your billing statements.

I signed up for this deal in October, and once December came around, they billed me for the full price service.

When I asked them about it they hemmed and hawed, and then said someone had me signed up for a 2 month plan, and didn't look at the notes on the account regarding the 6 month promo.

So they credited my account for the overbilling, and said that that'd be all the credit I could get from them until this month.

Mind you, they also promised to credit me for downtime during the attbi switchover, but said "their overbilling credit prevented them from doing so."

So, screwed twice for their mistakes.

Makes me wonder *why* I'd consider cancelling their service. [/Sarcasm]

Maybe, it depends on your location. In my location they do NOT offer what AT&T calls the "Buy your own modem plan." If your location does allow it, it saves you $10/month.

As far as what was mentioned about MediaOne above, it was my understanding that AT&T would keep the MediaOne backbone running until March. Then they would pull the plug. At least that's what I heard.

Everyone has a different experiences with their ISPs. Unfortunately I did not have good luck with AT&T. My uncle isn't happy either, but with his current location AT&T is all he can get besides dial-up.

<< I guess this could be hot if you are still on dial up, but if there are other high speed options in your area take them instead of AT&T. I wouldn't go back to AT&T broadband if they gave me an internet connection free for life!

I have had nothing but trouble with them. Late service calls, missed service calls, having to wait 2 weeks for a tech to come out, long waits on the phone, tech support people that tell you they can't help you, lies from CSR's as well as tech support, 3 weeks of downtime when it was supposed to be 3 days... I could go on, and I foolishly stayed with them for 3 years. Plus another thing that upsets me besides the fact that AT&T boosted their rates awhile back is that they don't and will not offer the buy your own modem plan in my area. I finally dumped them for Earthlink DSL at a slightly higher price but it is worth it to not have to deal with AT&T headaches. Oh and another thing is this $19.95 a month deal is the only thing AT&T will ever do for you. Don't expect any benefits at all for being a long term customer.

Check out www.dslreports.com for info on AT&T/ATTBI/@Home/etc...

Sorry for the rant, I just wouldn't want to see tons of people falling into the trap of AT&T.

Ever since the changeover to AT&T Broadband from AT&T @Home....I had to pay more for half of what they used to offer! Unfortunately they still beat PacHell DSL! I wonder why the government sue MS for monopoly but allowing AT&T to monopolize the cable market...well, atleast in my area!

Just an FYI...

When you join AT&T Broadband Internet you can give someone, ME, a free month of cable internet by just simply saying you're refered by someone (ME). This gives them a free month of cable.

Why Me? If you don't have someone to fill in as the referrer. Please refer me and I'll give you $15 paypal dollars. Sound good. it does to me...

<< Gee, why dont they call it AT&T @ Home anymore?? >>

In my area (central ca.) AT&T bought out mediaone/roadrunner, and it's called 'AT&T Roadrunner', 'AT&T Broadband' is the company name for their cable/cablemodem/digital phone subsid.

another thing worth mentioning about AT&T.. I had my service turned off about 2 months ago for nonpayment (I didnt receive a bill and thought they'd let it go a month, guess not) and much to my surprise, to bring it current, I had to turn in my cablemodem when I paid the bill current. I then asked when I'd be turned back on, and the cust service rep told me I had to call the new installation number, and set it up. So not only was I a new customer again, but they let me get in on this deal again as well.. I had to pay $28 or so 'setup' on the cabletv service, but I got cablemodem installed free (like they had to do much, they still had my info on file) and 6mo@19.99

Their initial setup 3 years ago they were on time. But anything after that they were almost always late. One time they never showed and when I called to complain they said that I had called them and told them not to come! That was a lie I never called them and told them not to come. And I had confirmed the appointment via their "downed" computers. Another time my dad had to take a day off of work to wait for them (one of those we'll be there between 8am and 8pm deals) My dad called 3 times that day to confirm that they were coming. Guess what? They never came and they gave us the old "Our computers were down excuse." They have given me the computers down excuse at least a half dozen times. I have had to call them at least 2 dozen times in the last 3 years for problems. Sometimes it would take a whole day of trying to get a live person on the phone. And they are always so backed up I have to wait 2-3 weeks for an opening to have a tech come out.

Oh and usually when they come out they bring 3-4 vans with 2 techs each just for my little old problems. And they wonder why they can never get to everyone who needs a service call. They have never once been able to fix my problems over the phone. They always give me the reset your modem crap. Like I haven't tried that a half dozen times already :disgust:

I'm in Seattle and the cost before taxes/fees, but including modem leasing is $39.95. Can someone who is paying this amount tell me what the _actual_ cost (after taxes/fees) is?

I'm guessing this is like my $29.99 cellphone plan that costs $38 per month.

Also, the AT&T website offers you the option of a $4 (not $10 for me) discount if you buy a modem. The one they offer is $199.99.

Thanks,
RC

Just wanted to say that I have Directvdsl and have had it for 1 month now. Has not been down at all. I signed up for a promotion, it was:
2 months free
a $50 gift cert for Amazon.com
free equip/install
$50 a month after that..

And it was set up in only 2 weeks...

I don't know about Seattle, but when I was an AT&T@Home customer in the Bay Area, the $39.95 rate translated into a $43.xx bill.

I'll stick with my Sprint Broadband at 5Mbps! I had AT&T but needed a fatter pipe.

ANYTHING BEATS DIAL-UP! I don't know how people use it unless you have to.
