I just ordered the radeon 7500 mobility graphics chip from dell. It's not listed on their website. Thanks to gotapex.com that inspiron graphics chips can be swapped. Call dell at: 1-800-624-9896. Press option 2, then 3, then 2 again. This will get you to purchase software and peripherals for your small business. Ask them to search for the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 or if they can't find it give them the part number: Part #9J057 OR part #9J066. Both are refurbished and as far as the CSR knew, there was no difference. The price is $134.xx. Use the coupon code for 15% off peripherals and software (Can be found and expires today I believe). You also get free ground ship

My order:
134.95 - 15% + tax = 124.18

Not sure if this works with inspiron 8000. If you're looking to spend a little less, you might want to try the gf2go. I don't know the price on that one.

Edit: Yes the cards are swappable. BE SURE TO INSTALL THE LATEST BIOS BEFORE PROCEEDING. The 8000 can take a geforce2go but I'm not sure if it can be swapped with the radeon 7500 because I heard the bios has to support it. Oh if you already have a gf2go like I did, just egay it. I saw them going around $100 Hmm just heard that the 8000 CAN'T take gf2go

You might want to mention that this only works for people that have the 8100 and the UXGA screen.
So far I don't know of anyone that has been able to make it work with the SXGA or XGA screen.
That is according to everyone that has tried it on the Dell forums.

I have the 8000 with the 32 Meg ATI Mobility M4, can it be upgraded to Radeon 7500 mMobility or the geforce2go?

TIA

I just went and found the answer to my questions above.

I8000 can use the geforce2go part number 4D597 and sells for about $120. I found one person who got the 7500 to work. I would probably wait for others to get it to work before trying it with the I8000. Also the Geforce440 Mobile is going to be released soon and will probably be faster. Also it might work better in the I8000. Not sure, but I know now that I can upgrade my current ATI M4 to the geforce2go card.
Thanks for the info DAWeinG.

BTW none of this information has be verified by me.

the c800 and c810 are the same as the i8000 and i8100 they just named it latitude for the business line. the 8000 and 8100 use a new standard called mini-agp.

the reason a lot of companies dont use any standard is it constricts their ability to design the laptop to whatever size they want. thats why only dell uses it and only on their largest laptop. the gf2go and gf4go are pin compatible designs, so the bios is probably gonna support it as well. my friend took the gf2go 32mb out of his older i8000 and put it into his i8100 before and he said it was fairly easy to do and it did work.

Any Chance this will work in a Inspiron 5000e? (i kinda doubt it though) or even one of the Geforce 2Go chips?

OK you may have figured it out - I am totally clueless about laptop components. Is this card THAT much better than the GeForce? I have an 8100 with the 15" SXGA screen and a 16 MB GeForce card. What benefits would I get if I upgraded my video card? How hot is this deal for me? Anyone?

The ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 only works with the UXGA 8100 because the latest bios for the laptop(which you Need) checks to make sure that it's actually an UXGA screen. so you cant use SXGA or XGA. It's probably so Dell can make more money selling UXGA screens for their laptops.

The reviews for this card puts it at almost twice as fast as the 32mb gf2go. But the gf4go is due out soon as well.

I'm suprised there's refurb cards of these already. They haven't been out for too long.
Last time I checked those part #'s were for brand new cards but who knows...

I might just have to get one of these....must save money.....too much debt...

Nope, best you can do is the 16mb ati rage 128 (possible the 32mb?).

Hmm... wonder if I should get one or wait for the NV17M... using a 600 P3 so wondering if it'll be processor bottlenecked.

The refurbs are actually returns from people that have tried the cards but didn't work in their systems.

dbz007 is correct in saying that the bios is checking the screen size to make sure it works.

So far I haven't heard of anyone being able to upgrade unless they have an 8100. But I'm sure somebody has figured this out on an older 8000.

The card is twice as fast as a geforce go. The nvidia card that is already out in the Toshiba line has shown to be a tad bit slower than the Ati. But not enough to notice.
