oh man, i bought this a couple days ago cause i couldn't wait for a hot deal to roll around. I got it for $70 minus a $20 rebate, I think. Can I go get a pricematch or something? Would they take the online 10 off 50 coupon?

I have one of them, got it last year, FAR too. Pretty nice, nothing special about it, just your average router with average options, stable which was more than I could say about the SMC wireless it replaced. As long as you're not looking for special features like VPN or firewall, etc, pretty much fits the bill.

Thanks, just bought it. Great deal indeed, look up staples coupons on your favorite search engine to get $10 off.

I already used the coupon for a previous order, so I opened an account for my dad and used the same credit card info and then the coupon went through. I guess a lot of people ordered it because it's now a 2 business day wait for me. Anyway, thanks for the tip!

Just to let you know guys that you'll get the F5D5231-4, not the F5D5230-4 model as listed on Staples web site. The F5D5231 is the better one, it has VPN in addition to some better specs.

Deal just got a bit hotter

I may have to get this one, VPN makes it rather attractive.

I thouht I'd just post this for anyone

Anyway, more importantly, does it have a LARGE port range forwarding capability, with 12+ datasets? or packet filter rulesets? My Netgear has those, I wouldn't be able to wok without things like that, but it doesn't have VPN passthrough.

The Belkin refurb is a bare stock router, someone said the one through Staples is the higher revision one. The bare one doesn't have port forwarding as far as I can tell, but nor does the Staples one. Can anyone answer?

Port forwarding is what I need for online gaming with XBOX and PS2. I can't find much feedback on the unit at Broadband Reports. Flash to the latest firmware I guess, if there is a problem I will return it.

So what exactly are you guys recommending? To me it seems like the belkin refurb has more capabilities such as a firewall.

THANKS

If the item shows out of stock with a one day delivery date, is there any way to still get it in my shopping cart so that it is basically back-ordered?

Jackpot!
I found the FAQ for this model and it says it fully supports PS2 and XBOX. Although it does say this model is discontinued.

Which router is this FAQ talking about, the belkin refurb or the staples one?

Also, how important is a firewall that the belkin router provides (can you just use your own one as software on the comp)? I read in the FAQ that only one computer can play internet games since it has a built in firewall.

THANKS

do not buy a belkin router, my friend bought one from there rerb section. It arrived doa, the internet port wouldnt work. We spent about 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong. Then we called customer service which was the major crapper, got put on hold for 1/2 a hour, we got through and the way they said is how to clear the router is totally diff than what the manual said. We kept on saying it didnt work, Finally the guy caught on. The guy told us we could return it to compusa, (we asked him about 5 times if he was sure we could do that) so we drive 45mins to compusa. Get there, walk up to counter and the people just laugh at us, there like we cant even take returns from our own website. So i go out to car very pissed off, i tell my friend to call belkin back there in the parking lot (since its his router and i dont want to deal with them). We get put on hold for another 45mins, we finally get through and say our situation. They said i dont know what your talking about you cant send it back at compusa. My friend tells him that it was some middle eastern guy. Then the belkin guys like you can send it back to us, we can do a cross ship if we get your cc info. My friends like so we have to pay to ship this paper weight back to you, and the real kicker is the belkin guy said he couldnt even ship it 2 day since my friend was going to be without internet, hes like we will ship it basic ground 5-7 days. And my friend went off on him swaring his head off, i was pissed too since i had to drive all the way the fuc* there. So we wasted time and money for a company i would never let anyone buy from again. Im sticking to my netgear products that have never failed me. And it took them about 3 days after that event to get the router out, and another 5 business days to get it. SO word of advice do no expect anything from there customer service.
