Yea, I guess you could and just make a new service. It may take a couple hours to do but I could get a second ethernet modem for free which is hot, those go for a lot of money. I am paying 45 dollars a month because I have the Complete Choice Plan with Bellsouth anyways....

To make this deal even hotter make sure your not getting raped by Bellsouth on the phone line by using Supra Telecom as your service provider. It will cut your local phone bill in half and will be using Bellsouth's lines.

Except for the fact that you will have to pay $50 service activation & the modem is leased unless you commit for 1 year.
What modems are they giving away now? The 3 com modem I got when I signed up is sitting in my closet because it won't even bring $10 on ebay.

directtv dsl has the same deal more or less but no rebates and they give you a static ip.
I moved from one location to another with my bellsouth dsl, keeping my ph# and they got it so wrong that I just had my service reconnected yesterday from a move on June 1. Apparently "billing" kept cancelling my account. They close at 7pm and hold times are a minimum of 15 min before thay transfer you to another dept. Net result 4 hrs on the phone over 3 days, 2 1/2 hrs in one sitting. During the move it took about the same amt of time on the phone. It wasn't until I was dealing with someone in corporate thru email that it got fixed. Even yesterday they said I had to order again. This is after I had ordered on Friday. So, the lesson is, if you move get completely new service. Don't try to keep your old user name. They can't handle it. Too many thumbs in the pie. Is this considered thread crapping?

Rumor has it that switching to Supra can end up killing your DSL. Can't confirm but people have gotten letters saying bellsouth will be terminating their service. I read this over at the bellsouth forums @ Dslreports.

Hell, I'd pay $60/mo for it right now, no broadband at all in my area and it's driving me crazy. SAT/ISDN/IDSL isn't going to cut it either. Too much for too little.

I've been a DirecTV DSL customer for several months now and they are 100% up 'till now!

Besides that, DSL is DSL and Satellite is Satellite & NOT - DSL.

Wrong. DirecTV DSL is just like other land based dsl services. They took over Telocity, one of the failed DSL service comapanies. I have it for the last few months ... no problem whatsoever. Lot of bad stories though in this Forum. But that is the same case with almost every DSL service ... shows dsl has a long way to go before universal acceptance ...

I have had both for over 1 and 1/2 years and I received the letter about 6 months ago. It's not from Bellsouth & it's not saying they will be terminating your service. It was a petition to make sure Bellsouth will be unable to terminate your DSL service. I'll admit it looked scary when I got it until I actually read it. I still have DSL & in the mean time I have saved over $500 on my local phone service & have more features. IF & WHEN the time comes I'll deal with it but in the meantime I will continue to rake in the savings & better service.

Are you kidding me? How much do you pay per month for that??? I am averaging 38ms pings on overclockers.com from my RoadRunner and I am not happy with the speed compared to how fast it used to be

I've used Bell South DSL for the past 2 years and could hardly wait to dump it! No static IP, internal modem that will not allow me to even INSTALL a ethernet in my system!!! Don't EVER get a internal modem for broadband...totally suk. I tried to get a static IP, external modem, etc and they would just laugh...really! I threatened to switch providers and they just say "that's my option".
YES IT IS AND YES I DID!!! My experience with Bell South was not pleasent and they sure didn't impress me with customer service.
The service, when it was up, was fast but would lose connections 3-4 times a day as they reassigned IP addy's. If you need a "always on" connection Bell South DSL is not for you. I have been using Comcast cable for the past 3 months and they have only been down 1X (about 30 min) because of a bad storm in my area. Speeds are consistantly faster up and down and I have a static IP that can be piped to other systems in my home. HASSEL FREE!!! Thanks Bell South for suggesting I go to another provider. LOL
Thats my .02 worth!

Original post should be editted (besides having two #3's.. heheh). There IS A TERMINATION FEE. For the free modem, you must either notify them you want to return it within 30 days (and then return in in the next 30) or keep the service for 12 months according to their terms and conditions. Penalties are as follows: 0-6 months = $200, 6-12 months = $100. Also, if you cancel within 12 months, they bill you for the $50 MIR they gave you. So if you cancel at month 5, they are going to bill you for $250. I'd call that a termination fee. Read carefully before you do this as a short-term broadband solution.

SpaCD,
I don't know where you live (and don't care), however, in the Denver area DirecTV DSL is the best bang for the buck, IMHO.

I've had a number of DSL, Cable, ISDN and a number of the rest. Yes, some of them were fast...
(I particularly liked Sprint DSL's performance/price-ratio). And, yes, ping times are not as fast as they have been in the past. BUT, it is way better than the old 300baud connections to CompuServ that would cost over $100/month.

You can no longer have DSL svc through Bellsouth if you have Supra. Call Bellsouth DSL yourself if you dont believe it.

As far as Supra having better service? Hardly... reps who have no idea what they are doing and only blame things on someone else when they cant solve it.

You get what you pay for.
