The Benq 1620 and the Nec 3500 are separate and distinct items. They are both very good DVD writers, but they are far from being the same. They come from different companies, they use different chipsets, they simply are NOT related other than both being DVD writers.

BenQ DW1620 is using Phillips chip set which is different from NEC. But the performance should be pretty much the same. But NEC is not ship with software, BenQ DW1620 bulk drive comes with DVD recording software and 2 exclusive softwre: Qvideo 2.0 and book type management. They make it more user friendly for end user to record DVD quality video!! Newegg is selling $62.99 now, which is the best deal for 16X+/16X- DVD bunner!!
