So people know up front its a local thing on open box items. (by the way this is the absolute best time to buy open box. mostly items that are X-mas returns.)

Great way to spend your GC's folks!!!! I like to go 2 days after X-mas to give all the return folks a chance to go and cause havoc and give BB to put stuff out on the shelves. Open Boxes after X-mas are priced much better than during the rest of the year b/c they need to move this stuff. Actual return volume varies by store and industry, but a single store can easily surpass their inventory/floorspace by 25% due to holiday returns. This creates a serious problem for the retailer as they have no room for the stuff and sending mass shipments back to the mfgs = major pain in the arse.

I am planning on going tomorrow, figured everybody would be returning stuff today, and buy tomorrow they should have a lot of open box items. Also, if you are friends with someone that works at best buy ask them about the junk out box. One guy I know that works at best buy picked up a dvd burner that somebody returned with a missing upc symbol, worked great and he picked it up for $50.

The "Good Stuff" will continue to appear until around January 25th, which is the last day to return gift items for the 2002 Holiday season. Typically, the 2nd day after X-mas is excellent b/c a lot of people still have they day after off of work and use that day to shop/return. The items are not usually priced and put on the floor until the next day (2nd day after X-mas). Also, the first Sunday after X-mas is also traditionally strong, as a lot of people use Saturday to return items. Again, items don't make it to shelves until the next day.

Most open box items are on the shelves where the item is found normally, however, some stores put their open box stuff in a central area. Although it wouldn't hurt to post some of your nicer findings, its almost pointless to try and and find an identical deal at your BB due to the unpredictability of Open Box stock.

Makes for some fun window shopping though...Let the Games Begin!!!!!!

When it comes in we put it out. We dont put it back in the department but near the entrance to get people to buy the faster. The good deals are gone with in 5 minutes. We had people standing there all day waiting for people to bring back items. I would say the best stuff will come back from today until most likly Tuesday.

Best buy doesn't sell the widescreen sony's... I would have picked one up if that were the case. Those are XBR line... which is too high end for best buy.

I had to get a 34" 34HD82 Toshiba widescreen with the best buy employee discount for 1500 instead *sniff*

Downers Grove Ill BB has mostly 10% off. I was told by two diffy salesdroids that BBs each set thier own return policies.

HOWEVER, on a lark I checked at the wireless desk and they had a Treo 90 that had not been used but the CD was cracked. I got that bad boy for $129 and I'm DLing the SW now!

I?m not sure if this still applies but a few years back bb sales people would haggle the price if you bought a warranty(for open box items). I picked up a Sony Dolby digital receiver for around 150 (original price was 600)

I bought an open box Soundblaster Audigy the other day. The open box price was showing $89.60 while the regular ones are priced at $59.99 (they had the price lowered from $99.99 to match with the CC's after rebate ad price).

Anyway, I asked one of the sales guy how much the open box one should be. He said, "Oh, it should be 10% of, so.... it should be.....$49". ......... I looked at him with an empty face, but he did not get why I was giving him the look.

I walked to a casher and told that it should be priced at $49 because the regular ones are priced $59.99.

Then, the casher told me he had to check with the computer dept to find out if the regular ones are going for $59 and picked up the intercom. I looked at him with the same empty face, and told him "Why don't you just scan it?". He looked at me saying "Oh...ya..... You are right.... You are pretty smart...." He hang up the intercom and scanned the box. Of course, it came out $59.99. And he corrected price to $49.

Anyway, this is just to let you know that there are a lot of intelligent people working at Bestbuy and that the price of open box items are very carefully calcurated by those people.

Nothing good on open boxes in my local BB. I asked a BB salesperson how much discount is applied on open boxes...he said the same thing...10%. Not hot unless it has an MIR and the advertised 10% discount coupon can be used on it.
