I ordered mine last nite and called to see when I should expect it. The lady there was really polite and friendly and checked my order and called me back in less than 5 mins. I'm really looking forward to getting this player now...

My sister bought it for me for Christmas and I must say this is the best gift she has ever given me (well, besides her love which is free). This is without a doub the best MP3/CD player on the market. If previously had the Rio Volt SP100 (which was great). If you are looking to upgrade from you current player or looking for your first, I suggest you get the SlimX. You will not be dissapointed.

<< how is it compared to the sony
my sony is coming in the mail
>>

The thread I linked has lots of comparison. The iMP-350 is better in most people's opinions.

For all worried about the lack of SSL encryption ... Just right click in the window where the text is and goto properties. (Do this from the Log in window, or check out window) You'll see that the frame is actually secure, but the entire window itself is not. That means your information is being transmitted securely, but the frame windows that display things like the iRiver navigator on top is not secure. So rest assured, your data is secure and you shouldnt have any problems due to the lack of encryption. (According to IE, it is using 128-bit Encryption with 1024-bit exchange).

Slim-X looks like it is an awesome MP3-CD player which will be even better if they add support for MP3Pro and Ogg-Vorbis.

I just ordered mine, and I can't wait! They also extended the free shoulder bag deal to January 15th. If I remember right they were going to give them out to the first 500 people who ordered, but I didn't see any mention of number or orders this time. And thanks LiQiCE for clearing up that page security issue, I decided to go ahead and order online anyway before I read your post tho.

i didnt like the website, so i ordered it with a representative.

this thing is HOT!!! it does what i had expected and even more! im not kiddin. dont have time to write a full review, but here r some of the things i like from the sLim X.

xxx 1. nice high rez LCD screen, even though its small, its still easy to read and provides information galore

xxx 2. tons of options to customize. u can even adjust the speed of fast forwarding/rewind. i can advance from 00:00 to 01:00 minute in less than a second. that was too fast, i had to readjust it down a little

xxx 3. more accurate info on battery life than model 100.

xxx 4. skip protection hasnt messed up on me yet. i havent jogged wit the thing yet though... they werent kidding about 8mb. it loads the whole song n the next song straight into memory.

xxx 5. controls n navigation. very well thought out.

sorry Sony.:Q

I bought a RioVolt SP250 10 days ago from Circuit City. $179 - $20 rebate is a better price, and after looking at the features on the iRiver site and the review on Good Stereo to Go http://www.goodstereotogo.com/reviews_imp-350.asp, I'm trying to decide if it's a better unit than the SlimX. The clunky remote and external battery are negatives and if you lose/break the remote you may wish you had an LCD on the unit itself like the 250 has. Rio has a corded LCD remote for $30 on their site if that's a desired feature.

The SlimX is a bit thinner that the 250 but the other dimensions are the same and it's tough to imagine a narrower unit that accepts a CD. The Philips EXP401 does accept 8cm mini-CDs, but they hold a lot less music and won't play WMA files. The 250 has a nice leather case, a lower price and all the features I wanted so I'm still very happy with it but I have a few days in which to return it if someone can point out some compelling advantages the SlimX has.

I just got my SlimX tonight. Let me qualify my statements by first mentioning that this is the first portable MP3 or CD player that I have ever owned. I'm used to listening to music on either my Yamaha home theater system or on my computer with Cabridge 4 point speakers. Thus, I'm a bit biased, as I'm used to pretty good quality. This is also my first experience with earbud headphones, as I use pretty decent Koss when on my computer at times.

That said, here goes.

The Unit is very stylish and pretty compact. Definitely smaller than the Rio in thickness, and it seems a bit in height as well, but not that much on height.

The remote is mildly clunky, not terrible, but not perfect.

There are too many features to list.

But here's the rub. I find the music quality, even when playing an Audio CD, to be poor. It's the headphones. I get distoration and a tinny sound. I plugged my Koss headphones in, and they sound great. These earbuds are the weak link. Does anyone know of really good earbuds out there that have an antennae in them?

No portable player comes with decent headphone; so that shouldn't be a huge negative.
Earbuds suggestions:
MX500
Sony mdr-ex70SL (short cord with extension-- perfect with remote)
ER6s (best for the price)
ER4s

Thanks for the suggestions.

Bad news is, while my Koss headphones definitely sounded better, there is still distoration and snap crackle popping going on. I thought it might be the mp3's and bad ripping, but I get the same junk even on original pressed CD's. I'm hoping that mine is just defective. For anyone else out there with this player, how is your sound quality? Do you get distoration, hissing, snapping at all on original audio CD's? I need to figure out whether to get an exchange from Iriver or just scrap the idea and return it. I really want this thing to work out, but I'm not paying $200 for something that sounds bad.

This DOES sound like a great player
but can someone tell me why it's
worth 110 dollars more than my NAPA
player shown here
Feel free to RAZ, BELITTLE, SNAP, HARASS,
or give DEROGATORY comments about my
intelligence........for I have no shame.

For Those getting popping:
What Firmware version are you running? Have you tried upgrading to 1.04?
Hopefully this should fix any hiss or pop that you hear

I'm using the original firmware. I'll try updating it tonight. Thanks.

BTW, the Slim X comes with a velvet sheath for the player, 2 sets of foam earpads for the headphones, the extra AA battery pack, and if you are lucky, the Iriver bag. I got the Iriver bag, but am still trying to figure it out. It's pretty big.

Needs a belt clip or strap or something.

Grrrr!!!!

Can't upgrade the firmware. Won't recognize the firmware CD. Now I'm really angry!

Well, had to burn it on my TEAC instead of my Plextor... go figure.

Anyway, the firmware upgrade helped. Plugging the headphones into the remote instead of the line out didn't hurt either

Anyway, I'm quite impressed with the sound now. I cranked up the base, and the earbuds sound pretty good. The tuner sounds pretty good too.

The remote takes a bit getting used to, and I'm still trying to figure out how to best use the big Iriver bag I got free, but aside from that I'm quite happy. Should come in handy when I go to Mexico later this month.
