The only mention of this site I could find in a past post was dated last January, so I hope this is not a repost. With the cancelation of AMEX's Best Value Garuntee, this deal has become super hot. Here are some details-

-First 3 months FREE
-There after $6/month for protection
-$50 Cash back paid $10 at sign up then $10 instalments quaterly
-$2000/year coverage
-$100/claim

So you pay $4 for the 1st year
9months X $6monthly fee= $54
Subtract Rebate $50
Total Cost= $4

You also get other benefits similar to AMEX
-Double Warranty
-Fraud Protection

There are some downsides though. Some people have reported denied claims, especially with deals using coupons. In other words, they can be stricter than AMEX. Also they may make you send in two credit card statements to insure you have not returned the item. But this deal may be hot if you can get even one claim processed. You can even make money just from the Cash Rebate.

Its particualy appealing for students, such as myself, who could not otherwise get BVG. I was never able to get a regular AMEX card because I have no credit history and insufficient income. The same goes for the Citi card. This program can be used on a student card, which is why I am so interested.

I'm using this right now. Their process is pretty slow compared to AMEX. It takes about 1 to 1 1/2 months per claim. I guess it's better than nothing. It's too bad AMEX is going away. They were really fast.

taserT- It says $100 on the website and in the terms of service, so I assume thats correct.

mrCide- the other thread does make me a little weary, but there is little to be lost, and much to be gained. Agreed that this is not as good as blue, but its one of the only alternatives. I think Justincase said it best "They sure do suck, compared to Amex BVG. But as long as I can suck some money from them, I will continue to do so...they have paid me over $400.00 so far, and have approved another $400.00+...only one very small claim denied due to the use of a coupon, but then Amex BVG also rejected that one"

Optical- Have any of your claims been denied? How strict are they compared to AMEX?

Buyer Assurance claims will be taking even longer now...it seems that they have recently 'enhanced' their fabulous service to include 2 new 'features':

1) Apparently, it now takes much longer than ever for Cynosure to acknowledge claims - I have had several where I waited 30 days after mailing and heard nothing...at that point I requested a status check and in 1 case it took another 2 weeks until I was given the status of the claim. Then...

2) After claim approval, they now ask you to wait 45 days to receive your check before contacting them about it (previously, the wait time was 30 days).

You may be looking at 3 months from claim submission to receipt of check. Cynosure is also fussier about all sorts of things than Amex BVG ever was.

Overall, Cynosure SUCKS...but I have sucked $1,000.00+ from them so far and haven't paid them a penny in the 7 months that I have been a member...it's still free money, so I'm not complaining :Q

Oops. Didn't read your last post before I made mine, MyBuds. LOL...they rejected another PM that involved a coupon since I wrote that, but they did also send me another $100.00. And they just last week approved another $100.00 from the Nikon 995 Christmas claim that I put in. I'll be retired by the time it comes :Q

Two questions:
1 If you sure you can get it PM with Buyer Assurance then you must not use a coupon in your purchage, right? And how you could be sure about that?
2 Do I need to be within the program before I get check? As said, it may take up to 3 months to get it. And what is the fee for second year?

What's the rationale for not allowing you to use coupons? Wouldn't they pay out less if you use a coupon with your purchase?

this program SUCKS the big one. i tried them for 3 months and took them over a month to issue a check back to me. and YES, there is only a max of $100 a claim.

they made me send in all my papers about three times. i also made sure that i got my claim because the CSR emailed me a couple of times and i was communicating with them. you can't call them either because they only do "business" through email. i tried calling them and they said that they don't speak over the phone regarding the price match issues.

btw, the company that issues the checks is called cynosure.

If this were a company selling an actual product, i probably would not buy from them. but what they are selling is a service that in essence just pays out money. and for $4, only 1 claim in the year needs to be processed. Its hard to be picky when a company is handing out free money.

They also make you send in 2 months of your credit card claims in order to approve your claim.

>>>Two questions:

Not right...you can use a coupon, but they factor in the full amount of the coupon when determining the amount of the pricematch, whereas Amex BVG usually but not always took the amount of the coupon and divided it by the number of items purchased on the order.

>>>2 Do I need to be within the program before I get check?<<<

You must be a member when filing the claim, and when the check is cut.

>>>buyerassurance SUCK BIG TIME. I filed my claim on Jan, after bunch of calls and emails, still haven't received my check yet. Over 3 stinking months:| Plus, I was just charged with $72 subscription:|<<<

Dunno if you did this, but I made sure that I got paid at least $72.00 before a fee was to be charged...I submitted my first few claims shortly after enrolling, and had around $300.00 in hand before the 3 months were up. They never did charge me the membership fee, but that's another story :Q

>>>What's the rationale for not allowing you to use coupons?<<<

You can. See above.

>>>they made me send in all my papers about three times.<<<

That's not typical...I have filed over a dozen claims with them and have never had to re-send anything...there were a couple of occasions when they requested additional info though, when they changed their terms without notice.

Note that I am NOT defending Cynosure - I loathe 'Cwalle' and the rest of this company; they truly do suck. Just clarifying the facts.

That seems less likely as more people in these forums are switching to that card and will abuse the BVG program into the ground for that card as well. The handwriting is already on the wall, as it was with Blue. Frankly, I cringe every time someone mentions the aforementioned card in the same sentence as "BVG".
