Compusa has this card for $80 after instant rebate, 2 MFR rebates. My question: Is this 8x AGP and faster 500mhz ram like the PNYs? Also, CompUSA's site says the 2 rebates look the same with different promotion numbers. Will BFG honor them both??

UPDATE: The BFG website says IT IS 500mhz ram and 8x AGP.

Not according to this:

PNY TI4200

ALSO, should I trust the BFG website about the 8x AGP? Does anyone have this card? If so, does the box say 8x on it or do I have to open it and install it to actually find out?

UPDATE: Just looked on the CompUSA website and it is listed as 4x AGP, oh well.

Nevermind mine was the PNY 128mb one when it was flat out $79 at BB.

That has 444 mhz ram.

Well, I just checked and verified at the CompUSA and it is only the 4x AGP card.

I got this card two weeks ago for $80. straight up at Comp USA (no rebate) when they were out of the PNY cards. Took some "reasoning" with them but two semesters of business law pays dividends. I can verify that it is 8x AGP although there is no reference to it on the box. Haven't gamed much with it yet but haven't experienced any problems so far. Also has a lifetime warranty so as long as the company stays around you have replacement insurance.

So, can you look on your box and see if it says 4x like the ones I saw? If so, you opened it and saw 8x on something or in the bios you saw it?

I am on the phone right now with BFG, fast customer service, nice. I am waiting for a board tech to get on.

Just got my answer, the techs said they can only guarantee 4X. (standard answer I am sure)

It should say 4X in the feature description on the box, on the back boomer.

You're right. Under "features at a Glance" it says AGP 4x compatible. It shows up as 8x in bios but my motherboard is only 4x so I can't take advantage of it.

Thanks for the response. I posted in the video forum to see if other people have gotten the 8x as well. With CompUSA's return policy I don't want to open it and find out it is 4x and be stuck with it.

Don't know if this necessarily applies to this thread, but I just got my 4200 128mb back from an RMA to BFG. Good tech support. This card overclocks to 320 core 600 mem, stable with no artifacts.

edit: Default is 250/500

what do you think, is this a good deal? i want to upgrade from a geforce2 ti. i really want a 9500pro but am on a strict $150 max budget, and would prefer to come in closer (or under) $100.

get it, or wait and see if prices go down on ati stuff?

Heh, you're not going to like what I say but I would wait if you can. cause the new cards are do out any day now and that should lower prices further. Thats easier said than done - I too wanted a 9500 but couldnt wait for the prices to go down and got a 4200.

happy decision making and welcome to the forum.

I bought two of these yesterday - one of them was the updated AGP 8x, the other was the regular AGP 4x. You can tell the cards apart pretty easily: The 8x has a HUGE copper heatsink with embedded fan which covers both sides of the card around the GPU. The 4x uses a small blue orb with embedded fan.

I was quite surprised to find the 8x, when both boxes clearly listed they were AGP 4x. The only appreciable difference I could find between the two, is that the shrink wrapping on the 8x was the more pliable kind accented with air holes at regular intervals - the 4x came in the more rigid, less flexible shrink wrapping. Also, the plastic insert inside the box that contained the 8x was about 4" shorter in length than the 4x - if you notice the innards of your box shifting around considerably, it's likely you scored an 8x.

That's about all the advice I can give you

For the record, the 8x is clocked at 250/500. I haven't checked the clock speed of the 4x.
