Pictures can show more than words, so here are a few.

I couldn't find any good picture of the L1 bridges close up, so here's mine:
L1 Bridge locked Close up view
You can easily see that AMD originally had these bridges closed, then they cut them.

Here is how my CPU looks after I applied rear window defroster repair kit fluid to it with a toothpick. I am no artist, and don't have a steady hand, so it took 6 tries to get it to look this good. Rubbing Alcohol easily removed resin so I could get it right.

As proof that this works, here is Sandra 2000 memory results that show the 600 easily beating both a 1ghz PIII and a 1ghz Athlon.

Last image is CPU benchmark with Sandra 99.

I got my kt7, but now it doesn't fit in my case. Does all the ATX midtower case take abit-KT7? Now I got a toy that I have to wait to play, sxxxx. I though I could update my system with $70 duron, then motherboard costed me $150, and a new hard drive $80, memory stick $75, now the case, $75 ish... it never ends. cooling, video card, sound card...

Wow. I oredered my processors yesterday at noon and they arrived today at one. I was even told when ordering to expect a two to three day delay as my shipping address was different from my billing. Haven't broken open either box yet, but have my fingers crossed.

nope no dual duron boards...and doubt that there will be (don't think amd would allow that).
but anyhow on to the juicy stuff!
currently have my comp testing at 936MHz (9.0X104)
cpu temp- 104F
case temp- 73F
using globalwin fop-32-1 w/ arctic silver
seems stable...will continue to bump up the speed slowly. will report back later

note: i got this piece of sweetness to post at 990! (9X110) unfortunately, she froze up on the win me boot up (oh well). if i ever have time, maybe i'll try peltiering this thing.

GL w/ your own guys!

anyone know how to flash the bios w/o a floppy?
i have bad floppies- they don't work.
i never really use em, just use cd boot option in bios to install os and then use plug + play network card to d/l drivers from other comp.

so how would i flash the bios w/o using a floppy?

thx in advance

You guys should try a multiplier of 9.5 instead of bumping the FSB. More likely to hit 950 or up with a higher multiplier. Mine's going at 9.5x100 right now. Been running for a week now at 41 deg celcius (104 F). Under load: 43 deg celcius. Used a thick lead mechanical pencil to connect the L1 bridges. No problems yet....

Q3A is nice at 950mhz by the way

Ab- this is how I always do it - I apologize for the length - I just copied it from the Abit html-
In order to flash update the BIOS, you will need 2 files:
1) the BIOS binary file,
2) the AWDFLASH.EXE utility file.
Create a directory or folder in the C drive: and name it BIOS
Download the BIOS file you need i.e. BH6GY.EXE, and download the AWDFLASH.EXE into the new BIOS directory. (the latest revision
always covers the updates from previous revisions so you don't need to "step-upgrade!&quot
Execute the BIOS file, then it will automatically self-decompress into a binary file, i.e. BH6_GY.BIN. You can execute the file by double
clicking it inside Windows Explorer, or run it under DOS.
Take a piece of paper and write down AWDFLASH.EXE and the name of the BIOS binary file.
Shut down your computer properly, then turn it off.
Restart your computer, press the Delete key to go into the BIOS and DISABLE the following:
1. CPU internal Cache
2. CPU External Cache
3. Video BIOS Cacheable
4. System BIOS Cacheable
5. Video BIOS Shadow
Please save it and exit the BIOS.
Restart the computer, press down Ctrl + F5, just before Windows booting up, for a clean boot, you will get the message "Windows is
bypassing all your startup files" and you end up at the DOS prompt.
Type in "cd BIOS" to go into your newly created directory.
Type AWDFLASH newbios.bin /py /cc /sn /cd, where newbios.bin is the file name for the BIOS binary file you want your BIOS to
upgrade to.
For example, updating BH6 (bh6_gy.bin), you would type: AWDFLASH bh6_gy.bin /py /cc /sn /cd

Has anyone gotten their shipment from Anaheim, CA - and are they unlockable - thanks

I ordered a Duron 600@900 from overclockerz warehouse and my L1's as well as one of the L7 bridges are penciled in. Is this normal? And I have just received my Duron from Buy.com and it is not locked. So there still are Duron to be had at Buy.com that are unlocked.

RuNok,Which one of the L7 bridges is penciled in and can anyone tell us why? I have not heard that you need to pencil in one of the L7 bridges anywhere.

A few (hopefully not dumb) questions before I try to put my system together this weekend:

1. Are you first connecting the L1 bridges, attaching the HS/Fan and then running it for the first time?
2. Are you using the adhesive thermal strip on the stock HS/Fan or are you ripping it out and using Arctic Silver thermal compound?
3. If you are using the adhesive thermal strip on the stock HS/Fan, how easy or difficult is it to pull out the HS/Fan and reseat it (if required)?
3. What's a good place to get Arctic Silver thermal compound?

Thanx

1. Connect L1 Bridges. Then insert in motherboard.
2. Remove tape from bottom of HSF and use it with the compound that is pre-applied.
3.??
4.??

"IF" after using the retail setup you find it is running too hot,
then get an alternate cooling method.

How much is too hot is a debatable point, as some say less than 50c,
others like myself say less than 60c, while AMD's official stance is
less than 90c, and they are giving you a 3 year warranty when you use
the supplied fan and keep it under 90c. I have written to AMD tech
support for a firm answer to the heat issue, and will post if the respond.

Best way to overclock is start with stock 600mhz, 100x6. Windows fully installed. Then tweak Bios settings to see what your memory can handle, including +33mhz. If all works good, increase FSB slowly. This will let you know what the rest of the system can handle. With stock HSF, I would only raise core to 1.7 or 1.75v if needed. Mine worked great at 112mhz FSB. Lastly, increase the multiplier. You won't be able to get as high MHZ if your FSB is high, but overall performance will be greatly increased if you can get a high FSB Vs. high end MHZ. 112x8 or 896mhz is much faster than 100x9.5 or 950mhz, and is actually faster than 1ghz in many tests.

I ordered 2 Friday, they shipped Monday and I got them yesterday (Tuesday). They came out of S. California. Both Week 29, all pins present.

So, any pointers to a mid size case; I'm moving up from Socket 7...

thanks

Please help! Could anyone tell me how I could tell whether or not the 600 MHZ Duron CPU is locked?

Just wanted to add:

Contrary to popular belief, even with the pins removed, the Durons are still not "locked". They just require more lead penciling of the Golden Bridges. Check our HardOCP for the update. So any Duron you pick up with or without the pins can still have it's multplier changed with a little creative pencil drawing.

Isn't AMD great?
