HOT! Boxed AMD Duron @950mhz. Final cost $70 shipped

Ugh got my Duron an KT7, Penciled in the lines and can only get it to go upto 814mhz Not bad but was hoping for more. And well its also running at 50 degrees c constantly so Im wondering if I should lower the speed. Oh btw this is with the stock HSF and a case that has two fans one blowing in one blowing out.

how easily do these cpus *really* hit 950? Aren't they 600mhz on a 100fsb?? 900mhz would mean a 150mhz bus!!! 1000mhz would mean 166!!!! I'm guessing the ram really isn't running at that speed, right?

I have a BH6 and c2-533 @ 896 (112 fsb), so I suppose i could sell the mb on fleabay for ~$80 and the processor should bring in another $80, $160 total, then I buy the duron for $70 and the motherboard for ~$150 so $220 total, or about $60 by the time i sell the old crap.

i thought about getting a p3-700 and trying for 933, but I have a friend's that can't quite reach 933 even with a good heatsink, so i don't want to try for it, besides that'll cost at least $200, $120 by the time i sell the celeron 2.

Since the duron is very close to being as fast as a p3 at the same clock speed, what do you think I outta do? Pay $120 or $60 for the same speed?? hmm, that's a tough one

oh yeah, anyone have an extra duron they'll sell me?

does anyone know of a hot deal on the Abit KT7? that seems to be the best board for overclocking.

DO NOT WAIT ON THIS DEAL!

AMD has already announced many times over the new AMDs *are* locked and are *not* overclockable. The picture at HardOP was decided to be a fake. Read overclockers.com for all the news on the Duron.

once these are gone, they're all gone.

Then again, maybe AMD is bluffing, just to boost their sales and see how many *real* overclockers their is out there.

guess we'll find out in a month or two, but by then it's too late

Oh, and a Celeron 850 is about equal to a p3-600 or Duron 600, so a duron at 950 is MUCH faster than a Celeron 850.

I cannot believe this. Am I dreaming or what? Is this processor capable of going over 1000 mhz? Because that is what I think I'm getting!! And so far it is very stable!! Can someone confirm this because I'm using the old bios of the Abit KT7 raid, and it's posting at the regular 600mhz; however, I have already set to 10 x 100mhz, and it is still rock stable!! I didn't even need to change the voltage!!! It's still at 1.50!! Actually, I had attempt going 11 x 100 and it still shoots pass windows one out of three times!! Can someone confirm this?? Should I flash to the new bios to see what happens?? Please help!

Why don't you do some tests with Sandra and post the results like one reader did. If your number exceeds his then it's probably truely that fast.

I highly doubt you are getting 1GHz at 1.5V. Did you connect the golden bridges? I had to flash the bios to get over 1.75 before I could FLY. It will go to 1Ghz though.

Thanks, but where can I get Sandra? Could I download from somewhere or do I have to buy it? Also, I did this after I connected the golden bridges. For some reason, I can even get past windows with no problems at 10.5 x 100mhz. Very strange, some thing must be wrong or I must be dreaming!!! Also, isn't the default voltage suppose to be 1.60? I'm using 1.5 right now. In addition, sometimes the computer won't startup, as if there is not enough power running in, but most of the time is fine.
Please help!

it is possible for some cpus to go above 1 ghz. I have one which is stable at 1ghz @1.625 V.

Go to Overclockers and check out their CPU Database. There are no 1Ghz at 1.5v, but many are at and above 1Ghz.

Arrrg....I seem to be having a problem. KT7 w/ latest bios, Duron 600@600, 128MB Micron PC-100, Viper II, Holly+ card, SB Live, SMC Nic, Winmodem, Pioneer 10X DVD, Zip Drive, WD 4gig HD. This is what my system is composed of. I think its the ram being the issue, but am not sure.

I keep getting Windows blue screen when I try to run some apps, and when I tried to install Office 2K, it locks up part way through the install. can't uninstall cause its not installed all the way. Also, when I tried to OC my Duron, it boots, but does not go into windows at all. Any suggestions?

Like I said I think its the ram, so if anyone has some Micron PC-133 or better ram around drop me a line @ [E]cksmith@netins.net [/e]

Keeps the cpu really cool. went from 58 degrees to 44 (celsius). it's running at 877 right now which is faster that 9x100 and is rock stable. i had it stable up to 927, but the voltage was a little high for my tastes.

Got the board from atacom and the fan from inflow direct. took 2 days from atacom for the board.

Max temp I've seen is like 53 celsius and that was at 1.85 volts

hey guys, this might seem like a really dumb question...i'm still a newbie at this overclocking stuff.
I have 2 64mb rams, but they are not pc100s. My duron is running at 850 (100x8.5) and like sometimes explorer would crash. Could it be the ram not able to keep up with the cpu speed?
and also, sometimes when i turn on the comp, it only counts 64 megs of ram.

Askalon: Watch your shared slots (ISA/PCI, PCI/AGP, and if you have RAID there is one PCI/RAID).

Yeknomboy: Your memory may not be seated correctly. Pop it out and put it back in. As for explorer crashing, that's a product feature.
