HOT! Boxed AMD Duron @950mhz. Final cost $70 shipped

Hey there,

I was going to click the buy button on this one and stopped myself. there was a computer show happening the next day so I thought I'd wait. Glad I did! I picked up an OEM Duron 600 for $65 and a KT7-RAID for $140. Slapped it together last night and was up at 850mhz with the default voltage, 1.5v. Bumped up the voltage to 1.7v and I am screamin around at 900Mhz. I guess i'll pick up the fop32 and try to try for 950mhz or 1ghz. Just check for local computer fairs before jumpin on this one.

anyone wanna share what fans they will be putting into their systems? Im not sure whether a great processor fan will do to keep this baby at 900 or I should get some case fans as well. Thanks

Well I have an intake fan in the front of my case and an exhaust fan in the back below the power supply. the power supply also exhausts. Currently my celeron 300a o/c to 450 runs at 31 degrees Celsius at full load with a standard retail HSF. I got the FOP32-1 for my duron and I hope i will be able to do the 950 dance.

got my 2 durons today. boys and girls, i am proud to confirm that these malysian beauties are unlocked. i never got a confirmation email but it turns out that there's a buy.com warehouse in ft lauderdale (about 30 mins away from miami) from which my 2 processors were shipped.
my kt7-raid should be in either today or tomorrow. should time permit i'll pop these babies in and test them out...i'm anticipating 900 or so, so that my hopes aren't let down.
either way i'm happy! LOVE BUY.COM!

short of opening up the box, is there a way to know if my cpus are not locked (came in today)? i thought amd would have put a label code like intel stating the date of manufacture, what fab, etc that the chip is. all my box indicates is "assembled in malaysia."

So... I'm guessing these ones aren't the early batches with the L1 bridges conntected. Do they require a pencil job (no, not that kind of pencil job ) to unlock?

Yep ... just a li'l ol' Number 2 pencil, or a conductive pen (better choice) will do the trick.

And I don't beleive there is anyway to tell by the box. But considering the ones with cut pins haven't even been seen in the US yet, I'm not concerned.

I too ordered on Sunday and still no confirmation letter from buy.com

Came home for lunch today UPS was just leaving, stopped and gave me the parcel,yup it was from buy.com

Bought 2 but since I live in Cali, the tax (7.25%)=$12.30 bumped it up some.

Shipping (standard shipping) $5.70

Not opened yet since I'm waiting to order a mobo still, $$ is tight, got into dj's Mushkin group buy also.

Is the fan/heatsink that comes with this enough to handle it being overclocked over 950mhz? Or is something better needed? If so, whats a good fan/heatsink and where can it be purchased?

fan/heatsibnk that comes w/ it will probably keep you stable but the processor will probably be really hot ~ 120F unless you have some other type of cooling for your case.
although the processor will do just fine at 120F, it will decrease the "life expectancy" of your processor so...get a globalwin fop32-1.

Woohoo, got my two in today. this is my first non-intel chip (about time I know, but hey, funds were limited and I could't have a mess up on my hands.) Question I have is do I have to run this with PC-133 ram? Also I need a micro ATX socket A board. I found on with OB sounds witch is great since its for my parents. any others? oh yeah its the ECS K7VZM model.
