I'm on my laptop right now. Putting on a fresh load of Win98 on my new Duron + KT7... Got the fan that came in the box, 1.7V... 900MHz! Might have to get better cooling for 950. 1GHz is rare.

Oh yeah. I used a 5mm mechanical pencil (HB).

I checked on pricewatch for the MB that Red Dawn posted back on Page one (MB805LR) if you drop the MB from it it does come up as an Amptron MB, but there its $109 + shipping but does have on board sound (not sure if the site Red found does.)

[edit] Actualy if you just look up 805 and skip to the second page you can find an Amptron for $96 (but no shipping cost shown) and then one made my PC-Chips. [/edit]

I would just like to say thanks to the people who contacted me offering to sell their second Duron.

The fans that most people are using (according to the posts I've read) are the Globalwin FOP32-1 or FOP32-1++ (which has an improved fan) or the Alpha PAL6035, but I've read that the alpha is too big for the Abit KT7 motherboard.

I suggest you check out some other forums here or on sites dedicated to overclocking. You can get the references and URLs on the overclockers forum here.

That post is to add a fan to your graphics card, not you cpu.

A lot of people have been reccommending the GlobalWin FOP32's - so that seems to be a good choice.
As far as the Alpha PAL6035 - many others have told me this was one of the best for the KT7 board, which I have now ordered both. So it should work fine - I'd like to know where you saw info about it not fitting on the KT7 board though.
The Alpha PAL6035 is about double the price of the GlobalWIn, but it is a much better heatsink/fan unit - especially if you are going for 1 Ghtz. out of a 600mhz Duron. 1 Ghtz. is NOT rare with this! I've emailed several people that have done it with this setup and it's been stable for weeks so far: ABIT KT7 MB, AMD Duron 600mhz, Alpha PAL6035 HS/Fan, 128mb PC100 (or PC133) memory, etc.

Also, make sure to use thermal compound between the heatsink & CPU to make your hs/fan unit more effective - this can mean a difference of several degrees - which is very important when overclocking!

I just looked for it on the overclockers forum and didn't see it. I think I picked it off a website. I was researching the last couple of days for the best fan to buy for my Duron and it's here in my notes. It was a clearance issue.

I'll keep looking and if I come across it I'l post the URL.

I know that the golden/chrome orb hs/fans had a problem w/ clearance, but from everything that I've read, I haven't seen the Alpha PAL6035 as having a problem w/ clearance. I'll let you know in a few days though, because I already ordered them!

IT'S NOT TOO LATE. Guys, I ordered mine over the weekend and got it today, and the processor is still unlockable! YEAH! For all of you waiting for whatever, HURRY! Once they're locked permanently, who knows if you'll ever be able to overclock them via the multiplier (which is always the safest way since it doesn't affect the rest of the system); and we all know that overclocking the FSB on athlon is asking for trouble Been staring at that pencil in front of me all day long... LOL Can't wait to get my mobo!

Here's what I did. very simple. Connect the dots on the L1 with a #2 HB pencil. I used a 5mm mechanical pencil. Just make sure you have four lines that don't touch each other. Attach the heatsink/fan, etc. etc. In the BIOS set the processor to 900MHz (9.0 multiplier at 100 MHz. Then change the voltage selection to manual and bump it up to 1.7V. Enjoy! If I have time this weekend, I'll make a web page with pictures or something. Weeeeeeelaaaaaaaah!

Ok I got my durons now Im just a bit confused, I know that theres something about all the pins having to be there for it to be overclockable but is there any picture I can compare to to find out if it has all the pins or not? Like on all cpu's there's always a few pins not in some spots and all and Well Im just confused please help me out
