Hot? Boxed AMDXP 2400 and Shuttle AN35N400 (NForce2) $119.99

Saw this in today's LA Times Fry's ad. I believe that the Shuttle mobo is an NForce2, and the CPU is a retail boxed one. I think it's hot it is because the mobo is going for $61, and 2400 retail is going for about $81, both at Newegg, so this combo is about $20 cheaper. I don't have a clue about the cpu, but I don't care since I'm not an overclocker. Takes effort

The XP 2000+ combo is tempting.. but I just checked the ad and it's the ver.8.0 of the board... if it were a ver.5.0 then I'd be all over it (cuz it has raid and built in firewire)

I just got back from Fry's. The 2400XP is a Thoroughbred. I might sell it and just get a Barton.

Seattle has a similar deal for the Shuttle board. From what I found, this is a SINGLE CHANNEL memory board, not DUAL.
Some have said the DUAL channel is only good if it has IGP...

OTOH, Seattle Fry's is offering a P4 2.6C 800Mhz FSB with Albatron Springdale 865PE chipset board for $249. Retail processor with HT!
Board is $77 at Newegg + Proc is $176 = $253 so a pretty warm deal....

According to some threads in the Motherboards forums, there isn't a real world difference between single and dual channel, except for integrated video. In any case, I'm probably going to wait to see if fry's is going to have some 2500+ or 2600+ combos in the next couple of weeks. I can't play with it until Winter Break anyways.

where you been..I just got a Shuttle AN35N Ultra..says in the manual(printed at that ) the Ultra series are dual channelable, even with all 3 slots filled, the 400 series are single channel only and also do not support 200 FSB procs.

Both shuttle and biostar make non-dual channel nforce2 boards, they cost about 5-10 dollars less than their dual channel counterparts, generally.
