Is a few FPS higher benchmark on a "particular" game using "certain" settings by your definition smoking the competition? I won't disagree that the ATI cards have much better 2D image quality, but 3D performance wise the 9600Pro and the Ti4x00 is on par.

No, I called the 4 BBs closest to me in UT (i live between 50-100 miles from them) 2 were OOS, and the folks i talked to @ the other 2 were so damn rude i hung up. I then called BB Corporate and got a lady who could barely speak English, so i gave up.

regarding the 9600 vs 4600, i have a ti4400 in one 1.3 cel and 9500 pro in the other, i don't see a difference.

Nothing in West Palm Beach. Even the Compusas within the nearest 60 miles (as far south as Pembroke Pines) are all out.

I just went to my local CC and showed them the ticket picture in hopes of getting one of these. They were sold out of the regular 9600 Pro, so I was given an AIW 9600 PRO for a whopping $89.24 after taxes! I just opened mine up and it has the Samsung ram (which I hear is good). They have one left in stock, so I'm thinkin about goin back tomorrow and buying that one as well!

it just ain't sounding right? a AIW 9600pro selling far lesser than a 9600pro???weird and if that's the practise of the store, I sure foresee that it will be defunct in no time.

Nice going. Strange they let you have the aiw in place of the pro. I guess you just got really lucky.

the 9600pros havent been stocker for a while, or at least they dotn seem to be stocking them.

they only have XTs and SEs now. nothing in between .

which is a shame as the XTs are expensive and the SEs suck.

No, it does not. The 9600 pro is comparable to the 4x00 serise of nVidia cards. Only a few games/benchmarks really shine for the 9600, but usually it will be beating out GF5x00 ultras and such at the same time. In some benchmarks the 4x00 series cards are faster than 9600 pro.

If you were to "upgrade" from a 4600 to a 9600, you would not be impressed. A few new features, and some games would run even slower. The only time the 9600 pro "smokes" the 4600 is when AA/AS settings are set high, at which point even the 9600 becomes unworthwhile to use because it would be too slow and you would end up dropping quality anyways. If you have a 4600, the next plateau of performance is the 9800pro/xt.

Unless you want a DX9 card at a great price to see shader 2.0 effects that you WILL not see on a 4600. Needless to say I had 3 9600 Pro's, I am down to one due to ATI's poor drivers, granted they fix them it takes a while it seems but I'm happy to say in my main rig I'm running my 5600 ultra again.
