Dood,

I called up Toshiba and Gateway and both said that its the dy you place the order - thats your purchase date - so it will be eligible for the rebate - ireespective of when it will be shipped (as long as its before 31st March - the last day to mail the rebate coupon)

So cheer up and enjoy..

Samitk, I called GW and the sales rep tells me there backordered till March 15th. If you place a order now, and it ships mid-march or so you are not eligable for the rebate. This is what they tell me, if anyone heard different, get the name of the CSR rep please.

Also, please post some day and night pics of the M81, i like to see how it looks.

I too called Gateway. The CSR said that mine (ordered Monday) is on backorder and is not expected for 2 weeks. I asked why it showed in stock, limited quantities. He told me that they got 3 in this morning which went to prior backorders. I asked why it showed in stock when they did not have enough for the backorders. He said they got 3 in. Apparently being dumber than a cowflop is a prerequisite to get a Gateway job.
Bottom line is that I don't expect them to be in by mid-march in quantity.
Remember the f*cked up server fiasco of last year - order in june - deliver in September.
They should buy some Dell servers to maintain their stock inventory.

The Toshiba $100 has been extended to the end of March, according to CSR at Toshiba refillment center.

guys, camera has to be purchased by 2-28, last date of rebate. toshiba will accept reciepts printed from gateway as long as it shows the date purchased and the camera model. also, the rebate is only good at retail stores like gateway, buying this camera at one of those 'other' camera shops wont qualify.

reordered mine, hopefully it will ship before end of march

fufillment center # is 888-322-5575, you'll get the kit mailed back in 90 days with the $100 check

As per my conversation with the Gateway rep - the receipt you would receive would have your order date hence you should be eligible for the rebate.. I confirmed this with the Toshiba Rebate center as well and they confirmed that as long as the receipt has the order date and you mail in the rebate before 31st march - you should reveive $100 and the goodie bag

Dood - its definately is a very HOT deal - as far as I am concerned..

So I just ordered mine too. It seems like this rebate is available at any well known store. I have tried to call in but the line is always busy. Here's hoping. To me, the price seems good even without the rebate although I wouldn't mind the rebate and the kit.

My camera will be here tomorrow from Photoalley. I bought it from them because of no sales tax and then I will AMEX pricematch later. I just called the fulfillment center and they said Photalley is fine for the rebate. So I don't think pretty much any camera place will be fine.

Ok, so does anyone know a cheap place to get Tiffen accessories for this camera?

Also, who is the best place to get digital prints from?

Alright, you guys are saving me poor! I took the plunge and bought one for $435 shipped including CA tax. After my $100 rebate, I'll be out $335 for a 4.2MP camera.

SWEET! Now I'll have to come up with a good reason why I bought this new camera when we already have the Olympus 1.3MP. Hmm...."I bought if for you because the old camera just could not capture all your beauty in details." Yah, that's it!

So umm.... I have not received any sort of e-mail from gateway after placing my order. Is this normal? I have never ordered from them before.

Placed my order on Monday and my order was awaiting for approval from their credit dept. Then I got an email stating that my credit has cleared, but the item was on backorder without an estimated ship date. I got a notice stating if I want to cancel my order, then give them a call. Now, I got another email stating my item was shipped yesterday from Texas with a tracking number. Then I decided to look into the Fuji Finepix from Compugeek and almost purchased that camera. Good thing I didn't cuz now my camera should be here next week. Woohoo. Hopefully, I'll get this camera as I am still pissed off at CompUSA for not shipping my Kodak 4800 from August 2001 and they didn't cancel my order until after Christmas. Then I didn' t even get an apology or any email with a substitution. Well, a 4 MP camera for under $300 shipped is not bad (after rebate).

Well I decided to cancel my order for this camera and buy the M71 instead...$305 shipped, with no rebate hassle and no two-week wait. Ordered yesterday afternoon and it shipped this morning.

Sure I'm losing ~0.3 megapixels of printable resolution, but that'll allow me to fit more pics on the memory card. Plus they'll be the proper aspect ratio for printing or display in my digital picture frame without the need for manipulation. If the M81 were a "normal" 4 megapixel camera I probably would have waited, but the funky aspect ratio makes it more like a "3+ megapixel" camera for my purposes.

Ebay your old one and apply that towards the purchase price, then it will be $100 less difficult

Hey guys, I talked to a Toshiba representative today and he said that showing only order date is not enough to qualify for the rebate. It must say "purchase date" which is not shown on the Gateway receipt. So I decided to canceled my order and order the M71 instead $305. The quality of the picture between m71 and m81 is not that differentexcept you are printing out large photos, and besides Toshiba 4.2 Mpixels is not the true 4.2Mpixels according to the cnet review. Therefore, I decided play save this time.

I'd go with the 2.1 and the 6x zoom. 2.1MP will give you great 8x10's. Most people don't need anything larger than that. The 6x zoom is an unusual and very much sought after feature. The only digital camera with a higher zoom is the Olympus 2100uz with a 10x (and it's nnnniiiiiiicccceeeeee). If you can find one, that's the hot camera to get. For some reason Oly never made a higher MP rated 10x camera (I heard it was because they currently were able to go higher than 2MP with a 10x due to a technical issue).
