Picked up an A70 this morning (5-22) from the Office Max in Irvine, CA. Was able to score the A70 with the reader and the 128 meg CF card for $250, and then on top of that, brought in the $30 off $150 coupon from Staples which they graciously accepted. Total was $220 plus tax.

argh, i called them last nite and they said they didn't have it in stock. Called all the stores around the Irvine area.

Rec'd mine this afternoon. Already shot a couple of sample shots. This is an excellent camera, loaded with useful features. No complaints at all regarding quality. The size is very compact, my wife is claiming it as a purse camera so she will always have a camera handy.

I was able to use the $50 off $250 coupon, so with tax (and a box of ball point pens), I'm in at $216. That would have made the camera alone a hot deal. With the 128MB CF card and reader which I estimate a combined value of $40 or so, brings the camera down to about $175 net. For a camera of this quality, that is phenomenal.

Only thing I need now is a good charger and a couple of sets of NiMH batteries. Any suggestions? Sam's has an Eveready combo package, 8 - 1800mA with a charger for $20. Only drawback is that the charger is weak, says it takes between 14-16 hrs to charge a set of AA NiMH. Would appreciate some guidance.

Tommyboy, that sucks. I called at about 7:30 this morning and got the manager on the phone. He told me that he had 1 so I went down and bought it. It was in the back though... so maybe when you called they only checked the shelves.

Dpreview and steves-digicams also have excellent reviews of this camera. The above link has a lot of information about a recommended charger and batteries with extensive information and explanation. It's by Maha, and if you look around a little you can find it relatively inexpensive.

Love this camera. So glad I got in on this deal. And my dad just bought one for $300.

Don't buy any overnight charger, especially if you are on vacation. These digi cameras suck up juice like an old camaro.

well i tried to do this i called in and they had no s200 in but they said they had no replacements =\ maybe i should go in and try any ideas and how i should do this? i got in 1 good deal today with the hp dvdr for 105 so im happy with that but i need a digi cam i do travel a lot now =) so if someone can help or can get one let me know ill paypal if u would like thanks

Not the best batteries but no shipping hassle/expense either and I think it's a quick charger (1 hour).

just called their 800 number and they guy said they are OOS in ALL STORES, i asked if he could even check locally for me (CT area) and he refused to do so, saying they're all gone....

time to wait until the S230 goes down in price....i assume they're not discontinuing that model?

why are they discontinuing the S200 anyways? whats wrong with it ?

According to the reviews, the Energizer 1850mAH appear to be pretty decent. I misquoted the deal at Sam's, it is 8 of the Energizer 1850mAH with a charger for $20. I'm going to pick that up today and look for a deal on a fast charger. From the prices I found on egay, this seems like a good price for the batteries alone, considering their power, brand name and not having to hassle with waiting for mail order. The included charger is practically "free", and, even if it is slow, it will get me by until I find something better.

I agree, the Sam's deal rocks but AFAIK we have no Sam's Club around Portland, OR.

CostCo used to have a similiar Panasonic 2 AAA, 6 AA 1600 mAH 3 hour quick charger for $25 - $5 MIR = $20 final cost deal but everytime I go to CostCo now, they no longer carry that product.

staples' coupon was a no go. the manager didn't let it fly.

i ended up spending extra $50.00 for the 2 year extended service plan.
i highly recommend it to others as well.
