Thinking about picking one of these up but a few people posted on the product page that they have a problem with it playing mono. Anyone here experience that?

I haven't had any problems with mine. It was cutting in and out once, but I think it was power related.

Just FYI.

The bulk rate adds a 1.70 in shipping to the order so three will actually be 26.59 and not 24.90.

Still a great price. I am waiting on my order.

Got mine in and they work GREAT! When I told my wife what I bought her, I got the usual eye-roll and "What the heck did you order now?" comment. After they came in and I showed her how it works, she sheepily admitted a week later that she hasn't listened to the radio or CD player in her car since getting the FM transmitter. She just copies her songs onto a tiny USB thumbdrive and listens to that instead.

Thanks Jokersmoker for the great deal and for yet another chance for me to tell my wife "I told you so!" regarding one my techie impulse purchases.

i got mine today, its clearly been opened at some point, package is roughed up, finger prints on it. its pretty cheaply made but I'm still impressed with it, and oddly enough for the cash, it might be worth it to buy another just in case this one dies. (its gonna happen)
also, its pretty strong output, gotta love cheap foreign stuff that doesnt worry about fcc regulations.

I received my order in recently as well. I had ordered three units to give a couple away as gifts.

Boy they really CRAMMED the units together into one small padded envelope to the point where the clamshell packaging was basically compressed down hard around the contents of the packages. They would have been better off shipping two units in the space they used for three.

I didn't notice any cracks / breaks, but I haven't checked the products out yet for function / form beyond my initial glance.

When I finish converting some old audio tapes to MPEG or WMV or whatever I'll give them a try.

Looks to be a great deal. I'm pretty new to how these in-car MP3 things work. Just want to check, so it reads MP3 songs directly off the SD card?

What if you have a MP3 player itself? Which it also has the USB cable. Could the MP3 player feed songs into this via the USB?

No, your other MP3 player can't feed tracks to the DealXtreme gadget over USB. The DX unit acts as a USB host, and the only device it expects to be plugged in to that port is one with some kind of FAT file system. Such as, a USB flash drive. You could connect the analog output (headphone jack) of your MP3 player to the line-in socket on the DX gadget, and have the audio put out on a FM frequency that you can then receive on your radio.

Here's the unit disassembled.
I plan on installing it in my G6 with extension cables to a USB plug, an IR eye, and a line in jack on a panel so I can use either a USB drive or line in and use the remote for any functions needed. Once it is tuned to a frequency, I can hide the main unit near the antenna and leave it there and just plug in whatever drive I want to it, turn on the FM (I never listen to the radio, only CDs) and listen.
Edit: I'll be hardwiring it to the same circuit as my radio since it has almost zero power draw. (Also, the radio doesn't shut off with the key, just when you open the driver door, so I don't want it to shut off prior to that.)
The G6 has a Driver's Information Center in the stock radio, and although there are aftermarket replacements (built into a dash kit), I am sticking with the stock stereo. The speaker outputs are fed into a Fosgate 400.4 amplifier, then out to the fronts (CDT's) and a single sub (Treo TSX 12") in the rear. The real system is in the other car.
As promised, here are the pics...

Here's a tip - never turn the volume on the transmitter over 10 (out of 15). I hooked it up to my main receiver in the house and tested it for a while, and setting the volume at 10 stopped the distortion problems completely. They are very noticeable at 15 (the max), and gradually decrease from there. You just have to turn your radio up higher.
I hope this helped/informed someone.
Or at least satisfied their curiousity.
A few more pics...

Thanks for the info Soundmanred.

BTW, I didn't really listen to mine closely today when I received it but driving home tonight there was a constantly clicking noise with my unit. Tried nearly every frequency and it was the same. Tried a couple different drives with the same result. These drives are all from my VR3 unit which I've had for 3 years, so I know they are good to go. Tried putting the volume all the way down and it still didn't help.

I applied to get an RMA for the unit. Believe it or not you have to send at least one jpg of the unit to process the RMA. :Q I hope this was an isolated bad unit one. So much for the deal as it will cost around 4.50 to 5.00 to send it back to Hong Kong for replacement.

Well, the clicking is not normal so there's something wrong there. It might be the unit, it might be a type of electrical noise from your car coming through either the lighter plug or between the FM transmitter and antenna.
Did you try it with the car (engine) off?

Yes, that was the first thing I did when I got home.

I've had this unit below for three years, + or - a few months.

VR3 VRFM8R

It's worked perfectly, it just has a 1GB limit and no SD slot so i figured for 10.00, I can't go wrong. LOL

edit:
This VR3 unit has no hissing, static or anything annoying. I think I just got a bad unit from dealextreme. Kind of funny that there guys are making a cheap knockoff from an already cheap product. Around 34.99 at Fry's.

I just read all of the reviews on the DX site. What a bunch of morons. (Well, 90% of them).
It reminds me of Newegg "reviews".
People expect too much. (No built in memory...WAHHHH!!)
People are cheap even for a $10 product (Can you sell it without the remote for a dollar less?...WAHHHHHH!!)
People don't take the time to read, or figure out the product before complaining. (It has no shuffle/random mode...WAHHHHHHH!!!)
IT DOES. You hold down the "play" button!
People are retards (The remote has a 2-3 second delay...WAHHHHH!!)
NO IT DOESN'T. You didn't aim it at the IR eye and you finally made contact after pushing the button for 2-3 seconds.

Tonight I used one of the units I ordered for the first time and overall it met the expectations I had developed from reading this thread.

We copied some 256kb/s MP3s onto a cheap 2GB SD card and inserted it and within about 30 seconds I had set a channel between it and the radio and it was playing away no problem.

Loud sections of one track were noticed to be quite distorted -- I don't know for sure how much the MP3 encoding (I doubt it) or the volume @ Level 16 on this unit's not-so-great modulator (probably) or the receiving radio/speakers (I doubt it) that contributed to the distortion problem. Turning the unit's volume down did (as others have related) significantly start to reduce the distortion level of the received audio.

As others have said, the remote is pretty weak and needs to be exceptionally close to the receiver and exceptionally well aimed to work. It is no big deal to me; I wouldn't have expected a remote for this anyway; that it has one that sort of works is icing on the cake.

So far it seems like it'll be usable for its intended purposes; I'll have to listen to it in the car to verify that the sound quality is around as tolerable as some of my partner's (too) old tapes and if so it'll do the job.

If there was one thing I could change (so far) about this unit it would be a better quality FM modulator that delivers a louder more fully modulated yet low distortion signal to the radio.

I suppose having some kind of playlist control / support would be good too so it'd be simpler to reorganize the default play order (using a PC) than it is to rename the tracks themselves but I suppose it isn't a huge deal. Eventually I'll put a full PC in the car for real full media control; in the meanwhile this is a nice inexpensive way to stop using old tapes and CDs and having to listen to junk broadcast radio.

I was on the fence about buying a $50ish after rebate digital HD radio with MP3 playing support instead of this thing for a while. I wasn't very much looking forward to physically replacing the built in radio units in our cars, especially when mainly I just wanted to play MP3s from a flash disk and didn't care so much about the radio aspects. This solves the problem more inexpensively and more conveniently, and I'd worry less about someone breaking into the car to steal this, especially since it is easily removed and hidden to remove any temptation.

It is also nice for a MP3 player since my partner doesn't like headphones / ear buds and it's not very feasible to use a pocket MP3 player in a car without getting lots of expensive add-ons for a car charging connection (if that is even possible with the unit), line out cable, and for a FM modulator, and then one has fixed/limited storage. This is better for car use and can just take a cheap SD card / USB disk instead of having limited capacity like a pocket MP3 player typically does.

I think it might be a good idea to introduce an artificial volume boost / dynamic range compression to your tracks you'll be playing on this just to make the low volume issue a bit better.
