Shipping 9 bucks to me in NJ. But looks pretty good to me without rebates.
2MB buffer is the only thing keeping me back though. Also do I need extra 200GB now while I still have about 50GB of empty space left on my current drives. Yes I do, you never know when you run out of hard disk space.
Also need to keep all my music in 2-3 differnet formats so ...... I guess I need it.

I'm sure that someone will argue with me, but I've modded 4 xboxes (xboxi?) and have used 7200 and 5400 RPM alike with no issues and only one of them had an 8MB cache. All are working flawlessly. The 7200 RPMs tend to generate a bit more heat, but never to the point of making an issue. I purchased one of these drives to do an xbox for a close friend.

If anything, I think you'd need the cache MORE THAN EVER for the XBox because it's built in disk cache must be either small or non-existant. An 8MB cache offers a 20% boost on windows where the disk cache is hundreds of megabytes. It's benefit should be greater on systems with very little cache.

But useless for tivo.

The original HDD reported in most xboxs is a bargain-basement 5400RPM with a 2MB cache of various flavors. The primary load on the HDD would be for backed up games and compared to the access time and bandwidth of the DVD-ROM, any ATA100 HDD is going to greatly outperform it. For multi-media puposes on the xbox you're looking at mostly large files (DIVX, WMV, and WMA). Considering the file sizes and bitrates generally found in these formats, the buffer size is not going to make a noticable difference.

Is this not the case anymore or was I wrong in thinking this in the first place?

The PS2 has a 120gb on the hard drive with that HDLoader software, no limit on xbox.
