Unless you plan to do the PM somewhere else, more than likely staples will check the website when doing the PM.

I tried to price match B&M Staples, Best Buy, The Good Guys, and Circuit City when it was $359 on their web site. No go, not even Circuit City B&M would price match their own web site. I ended up ordering it online (when it was still $359).

How much did you get it for?

Is this the best Elph?
I have a (broken) G2 but want something smaller to carry around. What will I loose by going to an Elph? I may still fix the G2 and keep it too.

Here's my story with this deal.

I saw it for 359.99, i pricematched it to Staples, and then used the some coupon (Can't remember). But long story short, they said they had it in stock, but then 2 days later got a call saying they didn't have it in stock, and that my order was being cancelled.

But it looks like CC has it for $399 now again.

Do what I did. Go to Amazon, open up a credit card, get $30 off first purchase. I saw it for $384 last there (which is what i got it for), and with $30 off, got it to $354+, free shipping, and they actually have it in stock.

Newbie photography question for those who bought this camera: How do you decrease the shutter speed - I want to use this camera to take pictures of my kids playing basketball. I see where it talks about "Long Shutter Speed" in the manual. But I don't see where it talks about fast shutter speed except when discussing the ISO setting. How would I best set this camera up take sports shots?

Edit: Reading some more on the newsgroups it appears I can not manually set the shutter speed. I will test the camera this weekend at my kids basketball game but it appears from the testing I have done so far this camera may need to go back. The main thing I use this camera for is sports pics. With my Olympus C-4000 I can just set it to "Sports Mode" & "Continuous Shooting Mode" at the same time - hold the button down and it will snap several continuous crystal clear pics of my kids swinging a bat, making a layup, etc.... Even in continous non-autofocus mode the C-4000 will "stop" the action so well you can see the baseball in flight with almost no blurring - and no blurring whatsoever of the subject. It does not appear I can do that with the S400. Drats....

I think you are partly right about the "cannot manually set the shutter speed." you can set it to longer shutter speed when you are in manual shooting mode, press func button to bring up the options, and while on the first option, press set button to bring up the long shutter speed option. I don't think S400 is a very good option for sports because it flash is not good enough for long shots, and zoom is not good enough too.

Based on the description of what you want to shoot, you want to use a "faster shutter speed" rather than a "long shutter speed". Long shutter speed means slower shutter speed where all action will be blurred.

If you have a camera and can not adjust its shutter speed manually, but can adjust its aperture manually, then you can still achieve "fast shutter speed" by changing the aperture to wide-open. Wide-open means the f-number is at its SMALLEST value. Therefore, f/2.8 is more "wide-open" than f/5.6.

Does the S400 has the option to change Aperture value?

No, the only thing you can really change is the ISO which helps a bit . I just went out an played with this a bit with my boy shooting some baskets in the driveway. At 200 ISO the pictures are better, but still a bit blurred. At 400 ISO the action is capured nicely but there is noise.

Hmm. I asked up above what I'd be loosing going from a G2 to this but no one answered. I guess this answers it though. Not good.

You want the Canon PowerShot S45 or S50 then.
