Went to CUSA tonight at about 8:30 and check this AT thread (and scan of receipt) on their internet enabled computers (Thanks CUSA!).

Wrote down a few sku's from the scanned receipt and had a guy scan the Win2000 4 Core & the A+ Prep books. He scanned em and the look on his face was priceless. Then he got the manager and he said he would go by the price on the sticker. That little slut.

Anyway, I went and checked out with the 2 books anyway and the guy was kinda half-heartedly trying to find somebody to ask but then he kinda acted like "just screw it" and rung them up. He said others had been in earlier and the books were supposed to be .88 but the system was messed up. It sounded like they were selling them though.

I'll be back tomorrow to check for more sku's and see if they're all still .01 or .88. Either way I'll be buying as many as I can find. Hopefully the price will still be valid tomorrow and they won't take them off the shelves.

Good luck everybody!

I actually just gave them 2 pennies I gave them my 2 cents worth!

Win2k 4 core - $108
A+ Prep - $85

= about $200 for .02 (99.9% markdown!!!)

Thanks guys!

MrNutz: in your situation I say u shouldn't have given them back the receipt. YOu should just snag it back, throw them the penny, and go sue them for that entire store, then fire the manager kaka....

Isn't a receipt is like a legal contract or something? If they do what they did to MrNutz, he can sue them right?

I can't believe how much tax I just had to pay. I bought 2 $98 books and paid 50% tax. Of course, I got them for 2cents and paid 1 cent tax. This was one hot deal.

This has been posted before, but I did not see it in this thread. If you want to find out what is on clearance at Compusa, go to their advanced search and look for items that end in .88
In other words, start with items that are .88, then try 1.88, then 2.88, and so on.

WASTED TRIP THANKS GUYS! It seems that there has been a pricing error. All books pulled and supposedly sent back to mfg or something. GetReal where did you get your info. Come on why would they be selling all their books? I asked the clerk and he said it was a pricing error. If they wanted to clear the books out then why would they lie and why wouldn't he just say they all sold out?

Not ALL books on sale, folks...but this one is/was real.

I landed 11, one of which was the New Riders MCSE Core set. The coolest manager alive was working at my CUSA. He argued FOR the $.01, even when one of his employees tried to correct him and charge me $0.88 apiece.

Of course, it made sense once he asked where I got it, and I pointed him toward the last remaining copy in his store...

<< In Austin TX, the CompUSA didn't have any .88 books today (Monday). Lowest price I found by having them scan the items at the register was $4.88, for the Coriolis Exam Prep/Cram series for Microsoft exams 70-210 (Windows 2000 Professional) 70-216 (Win2000 Network) and 70-220 (Win2000 Security Design). >>

You are wrong.

I went after work at 5pm on Monday and I scored plenty of books. It just took a while because they were mixed into the books that weren't on clearance, but luckily I took the list with me from an earlier post. I went to the North store and South store, here in Austin. The North store charged me 0.01 for each book while the South store charged me 0.88 for each book. I spent under $25 and this is what I got:

The Making of Final Fantasy Spirits Within (QTY5)
Windows ME Secrets (QTY5)
Special Edition Using Windows ME (QTY4)
Adobe Acrobat 5 PDF Guide (QTY3)
Complete TCP/IP Training (QTY2)
PCs for Dummies (QTY2)
Dreamweaver 4 for Windows/MAC (QTY1)
MS Access 2000 Visual Guide (QTY7)
Photoshop 6 Studio (QTY1)
MS Office 2001 for Mac (QTY1)
Cisco CIM (QTY4)
Complete Internet Training (QTY3)

My co-worker came after me and picked up another 4 computer books I missed, but now they are all officially all gone.

AY CARUMBA!!!!

Didn't realize the "Complete TCP/IP" was by Comer. He's awesome!
Ummm...not that it would have made much difference. Any copies at the CUSA I visited, assuming they even had some, were all gone...

<< %!@#ing CrapUSA this is the only damn computer store in Baton Rouge and they succeed in f***ing me again when a hot deal shows up in their store--- i went this afternoon and only found the MCSE Windows 2000 Core Four Exam Cram Pack shelf ...well i brought it up to the counter and asked the cashier to ring it up to check the price ...it rang up for a penny and she acted suprised but i said that sounds great to me so i gave her a penny...well before i could grab my sh!t and go, the manager walked by and the cashier casually mentioned the great deal i was getting on a book - After that he freaked out, grabbed the book and my receipt and told me that the book shouldnt have been on the shelf and told me i had to pay the face value price of $120 if i wanted to by the book - i told him that it was their screw up and asked what he was going to do about it ...he handed me a penny...:|:|:| ..*%*$#*&*#*&*@!!! >>

Um, wouldn't that be called stealing? Because you already handed them your money and they rang it up as a sale & printed your reciept, what that manager did was totally wrong.

<< WASTED TRIP THANKS GUYS! It seems that there has been a pricing error >>

dsneidert, it's not a pricing error. They are supposed to send the books back to the distributor that's why some stores don't have any on the shelves. They've pulled them and they're sitting in carts in the back room. My bro picked some books up today and the employee let him go in the back and take what he wanted.

From what he was told, the books were taken out of their inventory, some only for packaging changes. They have to go into the system, remove them from inventory, then change the price to .01. Then they send the books (or covers) back to the distributor to get full credit. It ends up showing as a profit to the store since the price was .01 when they returned them.

got 5 of them (1 each of the ones I wanted and one for a gift for my brother)from the Sacramento Ca Compusa at Arden. They had a couple books left. A person who saw this thread and one from FW was there ahead of me . It looked like they were pulling the books but i just took them out of the cart that was sitting unattended in the aisle

kinda funny thing happened to me...

i went to compusa culver city (basically LA).

So i walk into the store and there are lots of books but i have *no idea* which ones should be the cheap ones. So i have a plan, ill go to their internet pcs, browse to anandtech and look up the books and get away with em...

I walk up to the 3 internet computers in compUSA, and ALL OF THEM are already opened up on MSIE and browsing this thread, right here on anandtech...

so bottom line is books were way gone but it was a bit funny at least, ahh well

all of you bargain hunters need to sleep late like me so i can get some of these deals
