DEAL DEAD - at least the Freehold NJ store had only 1 book left at that price (network+ cram exam) all others were back to normal. The cashier (she was very nice about it actually, and willingly scanned all 20 or so books that I brought up) stated that yesterday someone purchased an entire cart full at 88c each. So I guess the powers that are must have relabelled most books.

Congrats to anyone who got in in time.

This deal is up there with the Gatway server for $400 (from May or so) and the Dell PC for $300 (from July or so).

Nothing at my local CompUSA (Clear Lake, Texas).

But some book sets were cheaper than the advertised price. If interested all I have are the UPC numbers, all are MCSE books:

790145181985 - $62.99
783254034006 - $143.99
790145113009 - $179.99
025211227633 - $52.49

Good luck!

Screw CompUSA, they cancelled my online order. Time to file complaints with the FTC and the BBB. Consumers should not be held responsible for their idiotic mistakes. Anybody else whos order was cancelled should call up and bitch to no end... perhaps if we are loud enough they may fulfill the order. Even if they wont it would just be good to let them know that we are unhappy with their business practices and their misleading prices... just another reason NOT to shop at CompUSA. Considering they rarely have any hot deals, they probably made more money from the people who would regulary not shop there than any other time. So get on the phone and let them know that business practices like this will not be tolerated and that the costumer is always right, regardless of their scape-goat bs "mechanical error."

My online order was cancelled also. Now I REALLY don't feel guilty about raping them for $1200 worth of books for less than a quarter!

Ordered last Sunday. Just received the cancellation e-mail stating that the books were "unavailable" and was told by CSR that they were out of stock. I just checked their website and the books are AVAILABLE (Add to cart), but not for $0.88. Anyway, congratulations to the ATechers and FWers that got this deal.

Went to the Buffalo Compusa this afternoon with a list of books people posted they got for .88 or .01.
There were tons of books on the shelves, but the 4 I tried all rang up at their retail price (one was $5 more than the cover price). I mentioned to the cashier that I though they were on clearance, and he growled something at me I couldn't understand.

Yeah..I did the same thing in HI--I found five books I wanted and went up to the cashier and asked him to scan one--the first one retailed for 50 and showed up as 24.99...he goes "wow! that's a great price". then I tell him to scan the rest to see what the prices were and it was the same deal. I tell..nevermind I don't want any of them. he said--what? they're on sale--good price!....i said..no ...not cheap enough. Man did that guy get pissed..

I just got back from the CompUsa nearest me, they had the dreamweaver 4 book the other compusa didnt, and it rang up .01

I dont know if all the B&Ms that have them are still at that price. These books (in 2 stores) were in the regular book section, not the discounted books. They were not marked as being on sale or discounted, just sitting there like normal. I had my printout with me just in case, but I didnt have to fight at all...

Well I ordered last Sunday and also received the cancellation email. Yesterday I went to the Orange CT store and got the C++, Photoshop and Cisco internetworking basics for .01 each. The look on the cashiers face was priceless. He didn't know what to do. I paid my .03 and wished him a merry Christmas. Went to the Manchester CT store at lunch today and they had only Windows 2000 accelerated. It rang up at .01 and the old hag at the register tried calling a manager. I told her the book was listed on the web site at .88 and she said the web has different prices. Finally a manger comes over tries to look up trhe book on the web, I guess she didn't find it and let the sale go through. The old hag says 1 cent please, I said what no tax and finally got her to smile. I went to the Orange CT store again tonight and picked up Complete TCp/IP, Complete XML, complete Internet training and Windows core four exam for 3.73. They actually rang up at .01 but I explained to the cashier that they were supposed to be on sale according to the web for .88 prior to him scanning it. Thats the first time I wont argue about being charged 88 times what an item rang up for. Thank you get real!

Edit*** There are still some Windows 2000 books, photoshop, Adobe bible, and C++ available in the Orange Store

I just bought 3 more books for 1 cent each in MD. I guess it depends on the store if they have changed the price or not.

Brookfield, Wisconsin... they state they never heard of this deal... go figure. It was bad enough at that, but we made it even more fun for them, we returned the mechandise we just bought there for the hassle effect, plus we found a better deal on what we were looking for at CC.

Is there an official web page listing these books and their prices, I am willing to drive a hour to get some.:|:frown:

My luck is terrible. I went yesterday afternoon and as i was picking up a book, an employee carts everything away into the back room.

Wow...I feel really bad for being lucky now that I've seen everyone else's results. I back to my goldmine today near Great Lakes Crossing (Michigan) and found that no more had been sold. DOES ANYONE HEAR LIVE NEAR THE DETROIT AREA? It seems like there's no anandtecher's in my area even though thats hard to believe. Anyway, I picked up 18 more books! WHOA! Yeah, at a penny apiece this time. I feel guilty as if I'm almost stealing from CompUSA but it's their fault for the pricing as jimmyhaha said. Thanks for all that info, jimmy. There's still some more at the GLC location if anyone wants them. I don't know what I'm going to do with over 30 books but I'm selling them in the For Sale/Trade forum if anyone wants to look. Good luck everyone.

For those in Souther California try the Burbank store. I was able to get a book there today for one cent. The sales person asked the manager what
was going on and I guess the manager OK'd it. I was not planning on haggling anyway. For one cent if it works then it works but if not no big deal. There'll be another deal to waste money on tomorrow. :Q

Went to my local store tonight. I got 2 box sets there last nite and was planning to go back for more this afternoon. It turns out they had removed all the books that were priced at .01! The bookmarks that had been sticking out of the books were just laying there on the shelf.

I snuck on to one of their consoles and checked a couple of sku's and it showed that they were still @ .01 in their system and that for the 2 that I checked, 1 had 3 copies in stock and the other had 2 copies in stock.

They oviously just carted all the books to the back room. It almost made me want to get a job at CUSA just for that, but not really I do know about 150% more than those airheads do though. In the hour that I was in there I heard the question "What is Usb?" about 4 times. Grrr...

Anyway, I scored 2 box sets (a+, and Win2k core4) for 2 pennies last nite so I didn't do too bad. Just be thankful if you got in on the deal.

:disgust:

I went Monday Morning at 11 am to pick up some of these books at my local B&M... I could not find any of the books at .01, .88, etc... I asked a young guy about the books and he said he knew what I was talking about but that the store manager had all the books destroyed - "Burned or something" he said! He explained that the manager would get better profit if they claimed them as destroyed rather than sell them or send them back. After his explaination, he offered to inquire further with his manager. He returned and explained "Um, My manager says all those books were sold already."

Of course I didn't believe that line of BS. I simply stared in disbelief, picturing someone burning those books!

Went to my local CompUSA and only found the Extermination strategy guide. It rang up for $0.01 and the manager let me have it for free!
