except as i was leaving i noticed i only got the %100 pricematch. they did a return - rering with the %110 and took care of my tax and got me some Flipz ... mmmm.... chocolate pretzels & $0.50 per gigglebyte without rebate!

Price matched two of these drives at Staples and they even let me use a $30 of $150 after the price match. Used real ad from Compusa and they didn't bother calling.

anyone that buys this maxtor drive, check your warranty status online after you get it.
i bought a diamondmax plus 9 (160 gig 7200 8meg) in mid-march, label says mfr'd 9 january 2004, and yet warranty was listed as only thru july 17

well, i've already RMA'd it because it died on me faster than a Kia, and now i'm having to fight them tooth and nail to at least give me warranty until January 2005 on the new drive (when all they really have to do is pay attention to the drive label when i mail it back)

Did you do an advance RMA? They automatically change the warranty period on your drive to 90 days in that case, until you send back your bad HD, and then they re-instate the remainder of the full warranty term on your recieved HD.

Maxtor will warranty it from date of purchase, you need to keep receipt or send them a copy with the serial number of the harddrive so they can update it

Anyways there is a Worst Buy in the Holyoke Mall. Walked in grabbed the drive off the shelf, went to customer service. They matched the model number, filled out a form, had me fill in my info, then they had a mgr sign it.
$84 out the door and I don't have to spend half my life filling out and tracking stupid rebate forms.

Now I can back up my drive, reformat, and reinstall. Wish I knew why my system keeps randomly rebooting.
if running XP turn off AutoReboot(Start>Settings/Control Panel>System>Advanced>Startup and Recovery/Settings tab>Uncheck Auto Restart) to try to get old-style BSOD with error message that could be googled for more info..and
uh..there are no MIRs on this..straight out the door pricing ..as noted at the Topic headline..is a sweet deal

Doh, forgot about that! I turned off autoreboot and found the BSOD this morning with blackdrv.sys. $40 wasted on junky software.

Oh well at least the drive has been working well.

When I opened my drive, to my shock the mfg date was August 2003! My warrantly expires in a month and I bought it yesterday. lol Looks like I will be keeping the receipt on this one.

I just bought this at BestBuy with at a price match plus the 10% the difference. The total came out to 71.99 plus tax.

Hmm. What are the first 2 letters of your serial number? If it's a Y4, then it's a two-platter drive, if it's a Y6, it's an older 3-platter model. I'm curious which models they were producing around then.

PS. Does your nick have any relation to the character of a similar name from the movie, 'Freddy vs. Jason', by any chance?

I finally installed mine & have it working perfectly.

As it's a faster drive I wanted my OS on it & my games & other apps there as well.

I use a program called 'True Image" Worked beautifully, well once I reset the CMOS on my 400 SC.

I'm using my other 160 GB drive for Storage for my PVR files & other backups before I move the permenent ones to my external drive then finally a DVD -R Disc.

Love this drive!

Since I only get 100% PM at my Best Buy, I used the pay-full-price-walk-back-in-with-ad method. Wound up getting more refunded than what I paid.

Sweet.

If a person were really frugal, they could check the FS/FT forums for GC's. I personally know at least one guy who is selling one over there...

I will check serial number tonight and post my findings.

Name has no relation to that movie. Never seen it, is there a reference to it?

Darn whipper-snappers! OOS everywhere in Texas!

When I bought mine last week, according to Staples who called CUSA to price match, there were only 4 left in the Dallas area.

I have had good drives from Maxtor, WD. Also failed drives from both Maxtor and WD. Most of them work fine.
