FYI, don't expect to receive any rebates from Hawking in LESS than 12 weeks. They have been processing a $10 rebate for me since 8/12/05. As of yesterday they said I should be receiving it in the next 2 weeks........Yeah, right!!!

"Although I personally wouldn't get that e-machine I'm thinking about recommending it to someone with a really outdated machine. If I popped an older 9800 pro and some more RAM in would that be a decent PC or should it be avoided at all costs?"

it uses the first k8m-800 like the other emachine amds they offer?
i have the 6405 and it is the flagship (for me)
will need to install a new power supply imoime though to use that 9800pro
i had a 300w bestec and it shut down once after i had installed a fx5900
replaced it with that forever rebate mad dog 350w and no problems since

"OK, enough crapping on this guy's thread already."

i completely agree. but have noticed most people here complain because they can't find deals on their own.
i never seen any of them post a hot deal here
hence their voiced frustration with themselves

"I think that the 512MB CF or SD card for $19.99 after one mail-in-rebate is pretty good."

for those who have circuit cities nearby they will have 1gb for $29.99 ar ($20 i think?)

You should look into the philips dvp 642 player. It will play divx/xvid, subs, etc. And you can get it for $50 on sale. Until the blu-ray and hd dvd stuff comes, then you'll want something for hdtv. Normal DVD max res is around 700x500 so anything higher doesn't really help much.

The e-machine is not a bad machine. I have the same one. How soon can you cancel AOL?

It's a joke then. You can get basically the same computer with a monitor for $299 at OD.
Sell the monitor for $50-75.

Ripped from SD, note the implication that its a year signup as I mentioned earlier:
$250 Gift Card w/ AOL Sign up.
Look on page 1 for the terms. They have a $15/mo plan, so 12 x $15 = $180 total. You're getting paid $70 to sign up.
And yes, there's a cancelation fee.

Sure if you like low resolution with only VGA input. A quick search for the item # in the add turns up this link:

Most of the forum folks have broadband available, but that AOL dial up account can be really handy for laptop travelers. I am considering these deals on that basis alone.

If you have broadband, make sure to check them. Many/most large broadband providers also provide dial up for travel or use if broadband fails. I know SBC does (the DSL I use). They usually have numbers in all the major cities, often the smaller ones too, they just let you use the dialup numbers that thier dialup subscribers use.

The $15 a month aol is for if you use your own ISP. If you were to use it for dialup you'd need to pay the $24 a month, which would then be more than the $250 discount is worth.

Personally I suggest you avoid AOL like the plague. Last time I tried it was when I was having DSL put in after a move, I needed something to use for a month. It screwed my system up so bad with its custom crap TCP/IP crap that I had to format and reinstall windows.

First off, Thanks OP!

Second, I'm drooling a bit over that Treo 650 deal... those without previous sprint service are looking at one hell of a deal considering that phone still goes for $400 in most places. Only $50 worth of rebates as well, everything else shows as instant. Now that sprint has bluetooth DUN unlocked and the data plan is only $10/month, count me in.

Cheers

I don't know about elsewhere, but there was no ad for this sale in my newspaper today. It looks like word of mouth which makes my chances for getting what I want much better.

What good is an upconverting DVD player if standard DVDs are only 480P anyways. I don't see how it's gonna do any good considering most HDTVs up convert the signal anyways. I may be wrong, but this is something I'm kinda interested to know. Somebody school me.
