I was going thru my junk mail and found one from Cox that told of the new prices and tiers.

Preferred $39.95 4Mbps/512Kbps

Premier $54.95 5Mbps/768Kbps

The Premier plan also includes up to 20 hours of remote dial access.

Both plans now include a pop up blocker and spam filters and have increased the Personal Webspace from 10Mb to 70Mb

Isn't Cox the one who put a limit on download/upload limit and prosecuted high-traffic customers? Or was it Comcast?

" Service differs in these locations: Arkansas, Las Vegas, Gainesville/Ocala, Mississippi, Missouri, Idaho, Greater Texas Greater Louisiana and Fredericksburg. "

Of course I have to live in one of those places.

I'm in Northern VA and I've actually noticed a speed DECREASE in speed tests recently - from ~3mbps to ~2.2-2.5, with a higher upload rate near 300kbps.

4m/512k will be just fine - doesn't make a bit of difference to me if I download up to a megabit faster - ANYTHING beats the 26.4kbps dialup I was forced to endure from December 1993 until July 2001 when Cox finally got it working in my neighborhood.

And no - we don't live in a DSL-servicable area, either.

Yeah I dont' see how they can say its 768kbit up then tell you it is really limited to 384. I really need to find a decent provider in gainseville, I might stick with DSL, cause I'm not dealing with transfer limits.

I'm in Phoenix too. What are you getting speed wise? I think the 39.99 per month plan is 3Mbps. So can we upgrade to 4Mbps for free?

Awesome, just did dslreports.com speed test and shows

Your download speed : 3954405 bps, or 3861 kbps.
A 482.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 514613 bps, or 502 kbps.

Looks like they automatically upgraded me to 4m down and 512k up!

Im in San Diego.

I have Wide Open West's 4mb/.5mb serive which is the fastest available in my area.....I asked if they were ever going to raise it as Roadrunner which is one county away has 6mb/1mb service for the same price I pay now, they laughed and said no.

I think they just haven't updated the keynote yet. I ran a test last night when I noticed the extra upload, and was getting close to the 512 up that they support.

Latest speedtest results - 4035/505

So bottom line is: Cox automatically upgrades bandwidth for all High Speed Internet subscribers? No calling in or extra steps involved, correct?

I'm in Northern Virginia and have the COX SOHO service - 4Mbps/1Mbps

The upload speed is nice but for $120 it's not really worth it... I only need it for the static ip address.

The price/speed Cox is offering is awesome... they used to have a 4mbps/512mbs plan for "gamers" that was $80/month. This new deal replaced that... so half the price, not bad.

Reading on broadbandreports.com a while ago I noticed a thread in the COX forum that a user was told by COX that up to 15% packet loss is ACCEPTABLE, even if it is consistent. Obviously not everyone will have packet loss issues, but it's worth it to know that what is totally unacceptable to most of us is considered normal to COX.

I ordered the premier service tonight - my up now maxes out at 90-100KB/s. I'll think I'll keep it.

You greedy punks, I'm stuck in a Comcast/Millenium area. I have the choice of either 3.0/256 or 1.5/128 for $45, or $60 if i don't have their cable service, a month. You guys got nothing to groan over. I wish Comcast would get on the ball and reduce the price or increase the speed. Or take over all other cable companies, like they will eventually unless the government has something to say about it, that way I don't have to deal with someone 20 or 30 miles away getting almost twice my speed for relatively the same price. As for Millenium, just go bankrupt and sell your soul already, you're not helping me out.
