I think I might be retarded but I don't understand the logistics of eating a crab. I mean lobsters I only eat the claws and tail, but with crabs you eat the whole thing? Isn't there gross icky stuff in there? :disgust:
I've been spoiled with crab legs all the time...
The tomaley is not very appealing, imo. but the part where the legs/claws connect to the body, on the left and right sides has crabloads of meat inside. kinda hard to explain.
Anyone who is a true lover of crab know that the best meat isn't found in the legs or claws. Its in the area under the head where all the legs connect. This is where the meat is the sweetest, most flavorful, and most tender IMO. This is is not the the fatty, eggy, brainy part of the crab (eeeew). It takes a bit more work getting to the meat in this region than say, the legs, but is REALLY worth the effort.
On a side note, I cooked my very first crab the other week. A VERY traumatic experience for all parties concerned. According to my mom's instruction's I was supposed to slowly put the (live) crab in a pot of boiling water. I guess I did it too slow because when the crab's claw hit the water, it went nuts, digging its back claws into my arm. I had to bash him against the edge of the sink to get him to let go. I ended up scooping him up onto a chopping board and tossing him in the water.
Cleaning it wasnt too fun either, very scary for a first timer, I had to rip off the head, clean out the gills, tear off his genitilia, and tear out the mandible. <--- Very traumatic for a first timer
He was good eatin' though. Had him with my mom's special soy sauce, cilantro, ginger, green onion, and red chili sauce. mmmmm
