DIMM 3 - 512 crucial...

everything back to normal , and still crashes ... im going crazy ...

Don't you have to, or it is recomended at least, that you put the highest RAM in the DIMM1 slot? That's what I have heard at least.

Ordered mine on the 7th, got the tracking number yesterday, have yet to see a charge to my credit card... Hopefully I will see it within the next week...

Has anybody managed to get theirs running at CAS2 and/or 1T? Mine works all right at 2.5-2-2-6-2T, but crashes when I use the above-mentioned settings, regardless of FSB.

Here is some food for thought:
Got a hold of 4 sticks of the 512Mb Crucial memory from cnetpc and also a stick of Dell 512Mb memory. All of the sticks are PC2700 and are definitely genuine Crucial memory. There are a few slight differences in the markings on the stickers though:

cnetpc
2 sticks which had slightly brighter connectors and both marked as below:
LEFT sticker:
MT16VDDTT6464AG-335C4 PC2600U-25330-B1
BZABX5D008 200306

RIGHT sticker:
200306 CT6464Z335.16T

2 sticks which had duller connectors and both marked as below:
LEFT sticker:
MT16VDDTT6464AG-335C4 PC2600U-25330-B1
BZABXG2004 200308

RIGHT sticker:
200308 CT6464Z335.16T

Dell memory:
1 stick which had duller connectors like the 2 cnetpc sticks above:
LEFT sticker:
MT16VDDTT6464AG-335C4 PC2600U-25330-B1
BZABXEL006 200308

RIGHT sticker:
200308 CT6464Z335.16T

I'm wondering if the different markings mean something significant and if they might indicate higher possible timings. Unfortunately the mb bios on my boxes do not have any options to tweak the memory whatsoever.

Does anybody want to get in touch with Crucial and see if we can RMA those? I called the CnetMonkeys and they told me they'll charge a 20% restocking fee if I send those back to them.

Can you confirm this?? I got my DIMM and the gold connectors were untouched. It was not even slotten into any DIMM slots.

Hmm. Just curious - do these DIMMs have BOTH a "Micron", AND a "Crucial" sticker on them, or just the Crucial one? They might be SpekTek sticks, which I believe that Crucial may also sell. SpekTek is a sub-brand of Micron, they are their "second grade" memory, which may test and have lower overall margins in terms of testing.

It may well be likely that these are SpekTek sticks, and that is why there is no "margin" left to overclock. If they are missing a 2nd "Micron" sticker in addition to the "Crucial" sticker, it all but proves that they are SpekTek. This would also be consistant with being listed as "Micron OEM".

Yes, you are getting "Micron" memory with SpekTek, but they are lower-grade chips. It is also why they appear to be lower-quality, as if they might be customer returns, but the gold DIMM "fingers" look unmarked.

The left sticker is a Micron logoed sticker and the right sticker is a Crucial logoed sticker. Both stickers are on one side of the memory.

And exactly what facts do you base your comment on? My two sticks run perfect at stock speeds, and can run at cas 2 on my Intel MB though they dont do well at much other than that. This has usually been the case with larger sticks of memory, smaller sticks usually clock higher. The sticks I recived had never been touched, no marks whatsoever and had the rough edges on the PCB to prove it. Anyhow all crucial chips have lifetime warranty, dont like them rma them

Thats actually what I was thinking, my roommates stick looked new, and since it is crucial, you can rma it whenever

I just got my stick, had my fsb at 150 already, figured that was low enough to try cas2, no dice Won't run fast timings at that low either. So now its just sittin at 2.5 and 160.

Dont you need a reason to rma to crucial though? I wouldn't think they would accept a return because their 2.5 2700 wont run 2 at 2700.

Have you tried increasing the voltage? Have you tried increasing some of the other timings and then lowering the CAS to 2?

Just got mine today. Looks good. Same stickers as everyone else... Still no charge to my credit card though...

I'm curious, what do all these speed numbers mean? How do you go about checking them? How do you set it higher?

recieved crap crucial today.

I don't mean that all crucial is crap, but I'm confirming that these sticks will only run about 2% faster than advertised speeds, will not even post at cl2, and are substantially worse than the 512mb pc2700 samsung sticks I picked up from google gear.

Seriously, these must be customer returns or something. While they will run @ exact specs, the best latency I could get was 2.5-3-3-7 (read: crap), they're really sub par for crucial. Anyway, the label should fetch an extra 15 bucks on ebay (once ram inflates a little more).

bizaa... my samsung's claim the same stats, but easily run cl2.5 @ 400 mhz and 2.0 @ 333

What was the FSB/memory ratio? Was it 1:1 or 1:1.25?

I believe the ram has only nforce2 problems.
I tried the 2x512 ram that gives errors at stock cas 2.5 spd speed on my abit nf7-s

on an epox kt266 board.
I overclocked the motherboard and set the ram to 333 2-2-5 cas2 four bank interleave 1t and it runs fine on memtest and windows xp.

To clarify a previous post by someone, 2x512mb sticks of the cnetpc Crucial memory works perfectly fine in a Dell 4550. Sandra is reporting the memory as:
Bank 0 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 2.5-2-2CL 2
Bank 1 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 2.5-2-2CL 2
Bank 2 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 2.5-2-2CL 2
Bank 3 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 2.5-2-2CL 2
Memory Bus Speed: 2x 166MHz
Max Memory Bandwidth : 2656MB/s (estimated)

For the people that have overclocked successfully with the memory, can you post your results and the number on the right sticker of the the 512MB stick you used? It seems as though there are only 2 numbers for the memory, either 200306 or 200308

I got 2 sticks of the Crucial 512mb/PC2700 stuff from cNetPC. I've only tried one stick so far but it's running at 200 Mhz/DDR400 on my P4B533 with 2.5/3/3/7 timings and 2.6v. This is running the CPU at 150 FSB and using the 3:4 memory divider.
