against the CL3 memory, since staples has no clue if it's
CL2 or CL3.

They told me they couldn't price match it because it wasn't the same part number as the 103.95 RAM. So then I told them to cancel my order. They tell me they can't cancel it I have to refuse. I made my purchase at around 4:00 pm central time. No way did they ship it out already. I wrote them back and told them the site said it ships 3-5 days and that they have another 2 9/10ths of a day to cancel my order. No reply yet. I also asked what the part number was.

the final price is $77.38, as compare to my crucial price $124.72. SWEET!

I haven't seen anyone mention the fact that the ECC memory is only $6 more than the non-ECC memory. This is an even better value.

Go for CL2 (CAS2), especially if its only a few bucks more. You'll get a little performance boost if you run your RAM at that setting.

Regarding the 15%. If you look carefully at the page I posted for
Crucial, you'll see regular price and a web price. That web price
is 15% below the regular price. That's the 15%. I didn't understand
that until I tried to go back through crucial's sales process and
couldn't get an additional 15% off.

I doubt anyone is going to get an additional 15% out of Staples,
but you never know.

Regarding CL2 vs CL3 - Staples has almost no clue what RAM this is.
Someone has already reported the part # doesn't match what's on the
crucial site. Weird. Why can't they match the part # unless they
are trying to prevent the pricematch. If they prevent the pricematch,
they must be pricematching against a different part #, which means
we can tell if it's CAS 2 or CAS 3, or ECC or Non-ECC, or if it's
registered.

Anyone who gets lip from Staples should get the Crucial Part # and
post it here so we know for sure.

I got it for $84, but had to keep re-calling as 3 CSRs in a row told me they had no stock. CSR #4 placed the order. PM to $103 but she added $5.50 shipping - 30 coupon + tax = $84.

I guess it depends on which CSR you get. On the first call the CSR did the price match with Crucial 256MB PC133 for $109.79 - $30.00 coupon + tax, free shipping because it was over $50. Total = $84.38

On the second call (I wanted to use both $30 off $100 coupons) the CSR did the price match, and allowed use of the $30 code, but wouldn't do the free shipping because Crucial had a ground shipping price. Pointing out free 2nd day air did no good, and it wound up at $90.19. What the hey, it's still a heckuva deal, 512MB of Crucial PC133 for $174.57

I just ordered it today and it cost around $93 and ground shipping was free because the order was over $50, but when I asked them to use next day, she said they don't even have next day. Yeah, right. So apparently I'm gonna get it no later than Friday (the 19th!!). But it's a great deal, so I guess I could stick it out, but just because I'm curious, how'd you guys get next day?

The ground shipping was NOT free. I repeat NOT FREE. It cost something like $5.50. If you get some Canadian lady, hang up and dial in again to get a different CSR.

I've never had any problems whatsoever doing a pricematch on Staples web site rather than dealing with finicky CSRs. Just plug your order number and all the details into the online form, and they usually process it within a couple of hours. Or is there some advantage to doing it over the phone which I don't realize?

Ok, here's the whole thing:

go to the staples web page and do the search for the memory, click on the link to see the results and click on the only listing that's there to see the product number below the image block.
Open a new window and go to the Crucial site and take note of the price.
Open yet ANOTHER window with the coupon site (one of the two provided in the original posting) and take note of one of the $30 off $100 codes.

When you call 800-3STAPLE and get a rep on the phone, they'll ask what you want. Tell them you want to do a pricematch for some memory. They'll ask you for the product number and they'll ask how much you saw it for and where (the web site). Then they'll put you on hold and make some phone calls for about 12 minutes or so. When they come back they'll tell you what their decision is (depending on whether or not you gave them the correct info). Then they'll tell you the price. Tell them you also have a coupon code and give it to them when they're ready. Ask them about shipping. I've heard different stories on the shipping, but what you want to try to get is the FREE NEXT DAY that is offered at the bottom of the Crucial web site. I wasn't able to get it, but apparently it differs with different reps. Verify everything with them to make sure you understand how much the final cost will be and then they'll ask if you want to order. If you decide to order, you'll have to use a credit card and they'll take a few minutes to set up a profile for you. And that's all!
