I got my router about a week ago, and it's been running really smoothly, just like my previous di-614+. But the new one i got is revision B2, and it does come with only one external antenna. The router itself is also much smaller, I'd say by at least 25%. Looks much better than the bulky old one that I had, which was revision A2. The configuration utility in this revision B routher is also much more advanced. It has a lot more configurable options, such as setting beacon intervals, setting the power of your antenna (so if you have a small house, you put it at a lower setting so neighbors can't get onto your network, hence providing more security for you), turn off ssid broadcast (again, for added security), etc. It actually has just as many functions as the cisco router that I've played with before, and those sell for the many hundreds of dollars. So I'd say this deal is definately flaming!

Wonder if you can buy a 2nd one using the new rebate they have? I would like to add another to my house for more wireless range and better signal strength.

It says one rebate per household...but this one is a new edition...hmm...maybe not worth the risk.

Yeah, it's an awsome price for this router. I don't know if there are any hot deals out there right now, but I'd look for a DWL-900AP+ it's an awsome WAP and has a bunch more wifi features that the 614+ doesn't have. Since you don't need a 2nd router, the WAP would be much more versitile and handy to have. As long as the price is right that is.

Thanks for waking me up LSUEskimo!

I missed the previous OD DWL-650+ for $30 deal and was getting ready to head out to C-USA when your message jogged me into printing one simple page, making one simple phone call to OD, and saving another 10 bucks! My wireless network is complete:
  • DI-614+ Rev. A @ $10
  • DI-614+ Rev. B @ $15
  • Gigafast WF721-AEX @ $4 (FAR but shipping)
  • DWL-650+ @ $20

The 2nd router can be used as an access point. I'm on my laptop right now with a D-Link DWL-650+ wireless adaptor connecting to a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router (with the ip address changed and the dhcp disabled) that is plugged into a Microsoft MN-100 wired base station.

I am using the DWL-900AP+ on my network with the 614. Have it connected to my replaytv and can transfer mpegs at 500kb/s. In my opinion it is a versatile solution. Just so happens Tech Depot has them right now for 54.95 after 15.00 mir and free shipping. I was able to get my Office Depot to price match to the Tech Depot after rebate price(got the right person, went at night) YMMV

Hey, if i'm not mistaken, there's a 20 off 75 officedepot coupon valid until the end of this month. That would make this deal even HOTTER!

79.74 - 20 off 75 coupon - $30 rebate - $20 rebate = $9.74 + tax, shipped!

If you are refering to the 614+, OD will price match to CompUSA. Just bring in the ad. I just printed this page and brought it in. $59.99. Better than the 20 off 75 because you can go to the b&m and get it in an hour instead of waiting for it to ship.

You can call D-Link tech support and get a walk through. Or PM me and I'll try to get you the details as this really isn't the right forum.

Well someone should do a write-up and post it somewhere. The DWL-900AP+ is like 2-3x more than this unit...so a lot of people could benefit. I can host something if ya don't have access to a server.

If you're talking about using the DI-614+ as a wireless repeater to extend your wireless range, it can't be done. You must use a product like the DWL-900AP+, unless you're somehow able to hack the DI-614+ to have this functionality.

If you're talking about using the DI-614+ as simply a wireless Access Point (WAP) to an existing router, a few people in this thread can give you the walk-through on how to do this. This can be done with most wireless routers.

Thanks jrichrds, I was under the impression that both of the things you're describing are pretty much the same thing - I want to extend my network and range, by adding a second router. What does the 900AP+ do beyond this? Doesn't it essentially add itself to the network as a second router with, and therefore provides the additional range with its attenae and location?

I ordered the DWL-650+, which had $20 in rebates ($10 + $10). Unfortunately, Office Depot also pulled one of these.

Does anyone have a copy for the second $10 rebate for the DWL-650+?

*crossing fingers*

The big difference is extending the wireless range without a wire to the wireless 'bridge'. The 900AP+ (if I'm assuming correctly, haven't done the research on this particular product) can act as a wireless bridge, meaning that you can put this device 50 feet away without a wire going to your main wireless router, and it will take the wireless singals from your router and retransmit it, making your mobile device think it's closer to the router. Using the router to extend your wireless range would mean you would have to run a cable from your main router to your second router.

Thanks DSE, makes sense. Has anyone used the DWL-900AP+ in combination with a wired switch? I.E. throw the 900AP+ in your basement along with a 10 port switch or something - that way you have 10 wired connections that will use the 900AP+ to connect to the wireless router upstairs.

Please tell us how you connected two D-Link DI-614+ wireless routers together wirelessly, sharing a single internet connection.

Router #1: Hooked up normally.

Router #2: Disable DHCP, assign it an IP address out of your IP range (something like 10.0.0.1 or something), then run a crossover cable from the switch in router 1 to the switch on router 2 (not the WAN port). Viola! You have a wireless access point.

It wasn't really all that difficult. Been running this configuration since June.

Not trying to nitpick, but I'm not sure if a crossover cable is needed. The first time I set it up, I was told to use a crossover but the second time, I was told not to. I don't have one on it right now and it seems to be working fine.

I don't have two DI 614's, I'm using an SMC router with the 614. The SMC doesn't have an uplink port so I have to use a crossover. The 614 may have an autosensing port that switches to crossover when needed. Either way, this is how you do it...it's not impossible like someone mentioned before, and you don't have to contact DLink tech support to do it.

It must have autosensing as it seems to detest it with or without a crossover. I've suggested contactin dlink, although it is easy enough to set it up w/o them.

What are you using a crossover cable for?!! I don't want any cables between routers!

Anyway, bought a Linksys WET54G bridge and that'll solve my problem.
