u won't notice increased throughput if u only use the interet, but probably will if u use file transfer in LAN.

One nice feature of the 4X mode is 256-bit WEP capability. I'm not sure how badly it increases your network latency, but it is a nice feature anyone who is feeling a bit paranoid. Plus, since it is a proprietary method of operation it dramatically decreases the chances someone nearby will gain access to your network, since the majority of people will be using standard 802.11b or g cards which can't work in 4X mode.

PC Club has a FAR Gigafast PCMCIA card that uses the same chipset. If you check the link on this deal, a lot of people (including me) have been able to get it to work using the 650+ drivers. Mine will even switch to 4X mode, but I don't have a D-link router to try it with to see if it works properly. It is not the PCI card you are looking for, but if anyone has a laptop and is looking for a deal on a compatable card, it might be worth a try.

I have this router working in 11Mbps mode with non-DLink cards. Can I add the D-Link cards to get 22Mbps mode on only those cards, or not? I'm asking if each card's speed can vary, plus if there's any penalty, if the router has to switch transmission modes or something, if that introduces a significantly higher latency on any of the cards compared to using only the D-Link 22Mbps supportive cards.

Also has anyone seen less (or more) range, realized throughput with the D-Link cards in 22Mbps mode, compared to same card/location operating in only 11Mbps (or even slower)?

I've used Belkin KVM switches for years.... they seem to be the 'standard' ... as was USR way back when modems (remember those) were popular...
