I bought a few things at my local Radio Shack and signed up for the MSN thing (which of course, I'm going to cancel tomorrow). The total was $16 so with the $20 cash back from MSN, they paid me $4 in cash!
I believe you do have to give a CC and sign a contract, but the contract says you have to sign up, I don't think it's for any amount of time. So you can sign up and then cancel.
callgirl, MSN is Microsoft Network, the $20 (I think) per month ISP from Microsoft. They will give you a $400 rebate on a computer purchase if you sell your soul to the tune of a 2-year (I think) contract (exorbitant early termination fees apply).
If this Radio Shack deal allows cancellation without a penalty, then it sounds like a hot deal (unless you are stuck paying for the first month at $20, in which case it is a non-deal).
I think MSN has a deal where they give you $20 to try the service with no cancellation penalties. It is a seperate deal from the $400 3 year deal in that you can cancel at any time.........
a warning to make sure that when you guys go, make sure the stupid clerks don't let any passerbys get your vital info. i was in rs tonight and the clerk is sitting there with some girl's driver license, etc. sitting right on the keybrd...made me so mad i left and ddn't get what i walked in for

At my local (PA) RatShack, the manager said that you get $20 of RatShack store credit for signing up not cash. You have to sign up for MSN at the Shack and cancel quick before they start charging you $20 or $22 a month for dial up access.
Probably a good thing to start trying to cancel the next day because as we all know, they make it easy to start and much longer to stop.
I've got MSN ($59 for a year through accessmicro). I have had an issue with MSN billing (corrected now). I would not sign up for $20. Too much hassle if MSN bills you after you cancel.
Hi, it's me again. Just wanted to tell you that it went pretty smoothly. I cancelled the MSN today and there weren't any problems with it. I did have to give my credit card when I signed up but they assured me that nothing would be charged if I discontinued it within a month. Didn't want to take any chances so I cancelled it the very next day (today).
Well, tonight on 'Off-The-Hook' (hacker radio show - http://www.2600.com ), I heard that Radio Shack is getting OUT of the parts business, so there may be some parts deals. Also, their 33-number Tone Dialer has been dropped to $5 (normally $24.95 I believe). They have some Atomic clocks fairly cheap (around $29 I think), and the aforementioned rechargeable batteries. Not much else I would personally buy there; most of their stuff is re-branded and overpriced.
