For 15.00 bucks you can get another year warranty ..... Does this seem wise ?? How is the quality of Sharp??

i sell electronics at sears, and i'd recommend the warranty. that is a product replacement warranty for a year past the manufacturers warranty (should be 90 days). if you have problems, u just bring it into any sears stores with ur receipt and sears will give u a replacement that day for free (unlimited replacements). and since that model will be gone shortly, u'll get an equivalent model for no extra cost if (or at least legally you should, you might have to complain first though). so say next year if you have problems, and the cheapest surround sound 3 disc stereo is $250, sears will give you that unit for no extra cost and you'll still have a warranty for the rest of the original policies term. not a bad deal, i've used them quite alot myself. hope this helps

It also has a digital optical input to add a DVD player.

Darn, my Apex DVD player only has coaxial digital output. This Sharp unit doesn't happen to have a coaxial digital input, does it?

$25 online.

I ordered one for store pick up. The site says the stereo is no longer available for home delivery. It might already be sold out, but no harm in trying, right?

Here's a more detailed listing at the Sharp website: Sharp CD-DD4500

It has seperate lines showing "MP3/CD-R/RW Playable" as NO and "CD-RW Compatible" as YES.
So, in other words, it will NOT play MP3's, but will play most CD-R/CDRW copied or created CD's,
as long as the songs are not in an MP3 format, which most (if not all) CD player will do nowadays.

Hope this helps!!

Just picked one up. They only had one more in stock. Unfortunatly, it's a Xmas gift I picked up early so it's still in the box. But a couple of points:

It's advertised on the box as CD-R/RW compatable, so the previous poster is right. The website must just mean no MP3.

The manufacturer's warranty is one year, so for $15 bucks you get two years of Sears replacement service. That is well worth it.

If anyone knows where to get one of those cheap coax->opto converter online, please post a link.

Has anyone who ordered online for Home Delivery gotten their's shipped yet? My Order Status comes up as Mixed on the first page, and when I click on "Mixed" it says both my Stereo and the Warranty are Processing.

My credit card has been charged but the item hasn't shipped yet. I know it's only been a couple days so I haven't given Customer Service a call yet.

Why do you need to hook up so many speakers? From my experience, it's not true that the more speakers you have the better the sound output.

Btw, those Yamaha speakers kick $$. I have two pairs of them

I also got a track order from UPS already. It's coming toward me as we speak/type

When did you order? When did they ship it out?

I called up a CSR today and she told me the stereo will probably go out tomorrow from a warehouse in Illinois. She said it wouldn't go out UPS, but some other carrier they use. I asked her if it was Fedex or USPS and she said no, just a carrier they use.

So I have no idea how the heck it's getting here.

well here's the dealio, i was playing with the Stereo today, and noticed that you have to flip on "external sub" on the stereo for your sub to work. When you do this though, the sub in the stereo stops working, so your back to 1 sub. I think thats pretty stupid, but oh well. I think i am going to hook up the ps2 to the tv, and my computer to the tv and thats it. I might try to hook up my ACS 48's to my cousins yamaha's though.

As you can see, I was the first one to respond to this thread. I guess I ordered on the 11th. I got the order notification email on the 12th, but the tracking number wasn't valid on UPS' site until yesterday. I guess it's a bit different with Sears and other B&M companies. My orders with buy.com usually show up the next day or the day after that. Just be patient

Have you tried using a splitter from Radioshack to split the signal?

I don't usually memorize the name and order of people who responded to the thread, sorry

Can't believe that only a 6 hour difference between us ordering (you at 8pm, me at 2am 6 hours later) would involve a 2 day shipping delay.

I don't have time for patience

I got one set for pick up on friday (saved $14 on shipping) and another one that will be delivered next week. I played around with the display model at Sears and it's a nice $99 stereo.

I used to have a setup where I had two pairs of Yamaha YST-MS50W and 1 pair of Cambridge PCWorks (80 x 2 + 20 ~= 200 watts of power). I hooked up the 2 Yamahas using the digital output on my Creative Live! Value card using a y-splitter, and the Cambridge PCWorks to the stereo mirror output. Let me tell you, you get an ultra sweet soundstage mixing those two types of speakers together (for a total of 3x3 = 9 piece "home theater system"). The PCWorks have very vivid highs and the Yamahas provide great mids and lows. Adding more speakers to the setup, however, would upset the balance and create total cacophony. I would be happy if the Sharp shelf system is half as good.

What's interesting is that with the Yamaha speakers, there are two input jacks. If you plug your computer output to the Yamaha speakers's input 1, you could use the second input jack on the Yamahas as the output for you second pair of speakers. The sound wasn't nice, but it was funny cuz you could theoretically chain up an infinite number of Yamahas this way.
