I got e-mail too. Hopefully it will be a X850 core like the the later 9800 Pro's came with the 9800XT core.

I wanted to upgrade the HSF to a ARCTIC COOLING AVC-AT5 Rev. 2. Anyone know the lowest price shipped no tax in California? Thanks

Looks like you called it. I think it's no coincidence that ATI's financial Q4 for 2005 ends 8/31. I'm guessing that they're doing some financial engineering - they want to hit certain revenue numbers or they didn't want to have tons of extra inventory sitting around to report. ATI is not going to have a pretty Q4, but they might as well clean house and get the pain over with to start fresh for the next fiscal year.

If they are doing this to artificially inflate sales revenues/profits this quarter at the expense of next, now would be the time to buy ATI stock and then sell right after the prices go up when they announce the 3rd quarter profit increase over last quarter. I would hate to see stock prices after they announce the reduction in 4th quarter sales.

If they are doing this to offload surplus inventory because they are about to announce a new part and the oem vendors that are ATI's bread and butter don't want this older part, then direct sales on this volume won't necessarily hurt next quarter's oem sales and is a good management move to liquidate excess inventory while boosting profits. Stock prices should go up, but not see the drop in price after 4th quarter sales are announced.

Hey, now if only we get a 850xt instead...

It would certainly be nice, but is very unlikely in my mind. The X850 has a dual slot cooler and some people may have purchased an X800XT PE because they needed a fast single slot video card and would be unable to use the X850 (SFF, full mobo slots, etc.)
So if you got a 850xt you'd return it?

Heck no! There's only one card in my current system and that's my soft-modded 9500NP. Everything else is onboard (DFI LanParty rev A). I'm just saying that there'd be the odd person here and there that would be a bit put out if they ended up getting the X850 instead of the advertised X800.

ATI's financial quarter dates do not match up with the dates we consider quarters (which is very common practice with businesses). Their Q4 2005 ends 8/31/05. 9/1/05 will be the beginning of their Q1 2006. But my comment is much more dire than you interpreted it. Their current Q4 quarter (jun, jul, aug 2005) is probably awful. With the release of the 7800 Nvidias, ATI has probably sold almost no high end cards this quarter, thus the firesale of the XT cards. So it's not a matter of pumping things up at the expense of next quarter, it is an effort to make this quarter look slightly less disastrous than it is.

Just got a courtesy call from ATI Sales Rep and my card ships out tomorrow. They stated that they had a "large" release of product and wanted to verify that I still wanted my order since I had ordered on 7/29. I verified that I still wanted the product, verified my billing and shipping addresses, and he even upgraded my shipping to next day. w00t!

I should have my card by Wednesday!

I kind of kidded with him for a sec and asked if they were going to send out X850XT's instead as an early Christmas present and he kind of laughed and said we'll see. So who knows...

Will post when I get mine what exactly I get. My initial speculation is that these are production overruns (to gain the efficiencies) that they couldn't force through the traditional retail/OEM channels so they placed them on their website as "REFURBS" and took orders up to the point they knew they had capacity to produce. They still make an "okay" margin but get to boast about a certain number of orders for the quarter or certain number of units moved or some other metric the analysts froth over. This isn't something strange in manufacturing companies...we do it all the time.

judging by TheFamilyMan's experience, the email notification just means what it says - that it has been released for processing by the CSRs and not that it automatically was charged and shipped. I got the email this morning, which I wasn't too happy about since I cancelled it a few days ago. However, I just got a cancellation confirmation email, so they must have just gotten around to trying to process my order.

I didn't get an email from ATI, so I called them ready to blow up and request a free upgrade to an x850XT but they said that my order got released and will ship out tomorrow morning.

I ordered on Aug 8 at 12:45pm.

So far, the latest date that has received a order completion confirmation is Aug 9th from what I see. If you haven't received your confirmation email yet, try giving them a call (1-888-974-6728)

Oh and somebody asked if they could upgrade their fan to a ARCTIC COOLING AVC-AT5 Rev. 2... won't that void the 3 year warranty?

Does this card have any overclocking ability that you'd need better cooling?

Yeah--does anyone know how much headroom this card has for overclocking? I tried searching around the net but found little about the PE edition (mostly only info about people trying to OC to PE speeds).

Why not wait until you get the card to find out? We're not even sure what we'll be getting at this point.

Well, actually I received an e-mail today from ATI indicating that my card would be shipped. So, I became more interested in what the card can do.

Beyond3d and a couple other sites have gotten 550+ core and 560 + mem. Heat is going to be the biggest problem since there HSF is a little on the light side. just look at the HSF on the 850xt pe.

Well, the stock speeds are 520/560, so like I thought there isn't a whole lot of overclocking headroom. But I will certainly give it a try and see where I end up.

if you don't plan on overclocking, will you still need to change the stock fan or should it be fine? isn't it true that they get real hot with stock cooling even at stock speeds?
