Great deal for a cordless sliding miter saw. Ordered 2 over the phone - free shipping. They had 15 in stock. Makita is going to a 2.6 Nickel-Metal Hydride battery, so they're getting rid of these 2.2 models.

I just finished a room with wainscot and baseboard and chair rail. My $89 Ryobi from Home Depot is great for rough cutting 2x4s, but I could have used the accuracy of a Makita for this finish work. My Ryobi cuts 90 +/- 1 or 2 degrees. 45 cuts are about as bad, even with a sharp hollow ground planer.

This Makita list for about $599....

NICE.You dont see compound "sliders" at this price.Since this handles most anything 2x you could set it up in your shop and semi-retire your circular saw.

This would be perfect for crown molding, baseboard, and similar type of work. The only limitations come from it's 7.5" blade, and it's max 7" wide cut. A 12" blade sliding compound mitre saw will handle larger pieces of wood, up to 12" wide. But that comes at a price (like the $575 I paid for my Dewalt). If you don't have any real need for cutting the larger pieces of wood, you can't beat the price on this Makita, not by a long shot.

Question...Does the blade of this saw slide completely behind the fence? Can I get a 7" cut with the piece against the fence and pulling the blade out, or do I have to pull down and then out to get a cut? I have a 12" dewalt compund, I have never dealt with a sliding compound. Hell, for the price of a 12" slider I can get a recrip. I am trying to justify this thing.

Any of you used a cordless? Thank goodness I borrowed a neighbors...same model as this one...I was not impressed with it after several cuts....then my neighbor pulls out a porter-cable sliding compound miter (corded) and said....."yeah, I was disappointed too, so I pickud up this one".

AT'ers should clear out the rest of their stock. I'd jump on this if I didn't already have a Craftsman cordless miter that I had picked up for $105 on e- bay. (also have 12" Dewalt sliding compound - so the spouse just wouldn't understand another one). I lusted after this one but couldn't go the $400+ at Lowes.

I've used mine for 2x4s and all the 1x4s and the like.

These lightweight cordless are perfect for most home uses. The Makita is a step up from my Craftsman - and the Sears saw makes excellent cuts and lasts a long time on a recharge. Still tempting.... sigh

Got around to testing this little miter saw out today. Granted it's no replacement for 10" or 12" miter saws, but for small jobs, you can't beat the portability and quality of cut. Batteries charged in about an hour, incremental stops on the miter guage, smooth sliding, and square cuts. Nice plastic case that holds everything nice and neat. I'm really pleasantly surprised.
The only down side is that your limited to about 2" of vertical cutting. To cut 45s for trim, you have to lay the piece flat and turn the saw 45 degrees.

But then again you could always Find One Of These at your local Lowe's They have them on clearance for 337.00 I pick'd up th last one at my store display so got an xtra 10% off. Store just opened 3 weeks ago already got clearance items

Lowes didn't wait too long to put these on clearance . Our local Lowes has not had the Hitachi equipment for very long , already clearancing out some of the stuff. I guess the proof is in the pudding

That would be my two choices also. BTW, I got the DW-708 for $227 new! (Don't ask-and,No, not hot).

JJd I have this model and cant give it more than one "star" But its works if you dont have much trim to cut.
As for you who jump on the DW bandwagon,I think you are in the majority based on being on my share of job sites.However the majority isnt always right While not scientific,Ive heard a lot of stories about DW drills in particular failing early.Ive never had a DW miter.Scuse' me I better go dust off the flame suit.
