Sorry if this is considered crapping the thread, but I noticed the link you gave points to 216.53.143.42 but the "real" link is 216.53.143.143 from the DigitalPersona site... Its the mostly the same, probably neighboring servers on the same network, but as NauTiKa128 suggested it seems a bit shady

I just ping www.digitalpersona.com and got 208.55.251.3. A totally different IP address. Why don't they host the ordering on the same server? The only guess I have is prolly that they figure a lot of people will hit the website, and kill the bandwidth, so they put it on another server with a delicated line to speed up the ordering process.

So, assuming that you didn't have an accident in a machine shop, you can have up to 10 usernames for each finger (pinky, ringo, etc.).

But, for extra protection, use your stinky toe for the account where you hide the pron files.

Please post when you receive your order.

Guys,

On the IP dealy, I have NO clue whatsoever. I did order and got three emails confirming, verifying, and a receipt so feels legit. The website does link out to several IP's web servers. Again, why they are not using their DNS name, who knows. Like maybe shop1.

As for shipping, I bough 3 of them, and shipping to Kansas was $5.XX (can't remember the change) so I felt very reasonable. I will let ya know when I get them.

Note: After further investigation, I am retracting this original info slightly. I see that even the "30 day" promo links to an IP in the same range, so it seems less likely to be a scam. However, I would appreciate folks out there letting us know if/when you get shipping notifications or the actual product.

*** start original ***

Uhm, well originally I wasn't worried, but I figured I'd investigate. I smell scam, big scam:

1. 216.53.143.42 = 216-53-143ppp042.mpinet.net
2. mpinet = web hosting company in Florida
3. hostname makes it look like a dialup account

I recommend someone with the time and energy to start making calls and sending emails to mpinet (hosting@MPINET.NET)
MPInet 1101 N Keller Road
Suite E
Orlando, FL 32810
US
(407) 660-7900

Either this is a fabulous mixup or someone just harvested a bunch of CC's.

Alrite guys this deal seems to be legit.. I put down a question along w/ my order (when I placed the order) and someone got back to me today: (I asked them if I should format my harddrive to NTFS file system instead of FAT32)

Thank you for you order. You do not need to format your files in any
specific manner in order to use the file encryption software.

I would also love to have a copy of the Win XP drivers. I have used one of these since the Officemax clearance way back when I paid ten bux for 2 sealed units.

Like many others, I too got my shipping confirmation and tracking on the 3 I bought. Supposed to be here on Monday.

Feels safe to me and they called me since I asked on my order. I feel 100% safe!

Man! I got mine when they first came out and paid $200! That's why I'm not gonna give them another $20 for the driver/software. I've never heard of a company *selling* updated drivers.

The dudes who own the adaptec burning software now, Roxio, charge for win xp drivers too. I got a free burner only months ago and the software wouldn't work with xp.

So wait, this thing lets you log in to Windows. Ok cool, but what does it mean by internet accounts? Does it remember webpage passwords?

Yep, and in my opinion that's an absolutely MONDO cool feature. Imagine logging in to a website just by using your fingerprint? SWEET!

P.S. I already have one of these for Windows2000. SO I may get a couple at this price since I already have the software...heh!

Yeah, it will auto-fill form fields for you when you touch a finger to the scanner.

It lets you register multiple fingers (in case you get a burn / wear a bandage / lose a finger). All registered fingers fulfill the same function.

The software it comes with isn't all that useful -- Windows logon, Web form filler, and file encrypt/decrypt, and that's it. I'd like to write some of my own software for the thing, but Digital Persona says 1) they don't have an SDK for WinXP yet, and 2) their other SDKs cost several hundreds or thousands of dollars anyway. Methinks I'm gonna fire up the ol' USB sniffer and see if I can figure out exactly what's coming out of this thing myself.

Addendum to previous post: I've got a bad feeling that the fingerprint scanner just sends out a picture of your fingerprint over the USB wire, with the actual recognition done by Digital Persona's software, making software development probably impossible without their SDK. Bummer.

Hi,

Can any of you that have received this let me know if it works in winxp professional without fast user switching enabled (i.e. "Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to log in" a la Win2k)? From their site it isn't clear.

I would order one of these, but I had to disable fast user switching.

Thanks for any light you guys can shed on this.
