For $8 more I'd buy the NEC AS70 17-inch monitor (17IN/16.0V 27MM 1280X1024 66HZ).

$187.99
-$30 off $150 coupon
-3% eBates
-----------
$153.25

plus taxes/shipping

If you would like a lower price with free shipping but no coupon, then I'd suggest visiting http://www.onvia.com/

If you purchase a monitor from Onvia and place your order through PointClick(dot)com between 6-10 AM ET then you'll receive 10% back.
http://www.pointclick.com/10per.jsp

I would personally buy NEC before buying any other no name brand.

You can also get a nice 17" monitor (KDS V-7i) for about $150.00 WITHOUT using any coupons at

http://www.mwave.com

I never posted it because I knew it was a good deal, but wasn't sure whether or not it was "HOT". I guess so.

BTW, I just bought two of them this weekend (the KDS ones), and they have an AMAZING picture for a shadow mask monitor. Excellent quality, same specs (refresh rate etc.) as this samsung. --Plus you get the 3 year advance replacement warranty. Can't go wrong.

Samsung is not a no name brand but I would prefer NEC monitors over Samsung monitors. I believe you are right about people are having problems with Pointclick coughing up the rebates promised to the buyers.

Correct me if I am wrong.

It's said that Packard Bell computer is bad, (same as AOL, which I do not really agreed with either), and after NEC bought Packard Bell, those NEC computer were actually built by Packard Bell.

Is NEC monitor a rebadged PB monitor also?

I was talking to a guy at work today about monitors. He has a 19". He is like I would never go lower then a 19" or higher. 19" is just right. blah blah blah. then I called my buddy and he is like 19" is just too much. etc. Should I keep the 17" or should I just get a 19" I know its my own personal taste but I would like your comments.

I had a 20" Dell Trinitron which just about ate my desk. Sold it to a friend and now I have the Radius monitor. This monitor TOTALLY KICKS @$$! Has .25dp, a SONY trinitron tube, and does 1600 X 1200 at 75Hz. For a 17" monitor, that is pretty impressive. My friends complain that they can't read the letters on the screen, but for someone like me with 20/20 vision, this monitor is totally awesome!

Picked it up for $199 a while back. I still think it was a good deal...

WhiteMouse - You are partially right. NEC computer (not monitors, not printers) bought Packard Bell computers.

Both NEC and Packard Bell computers SUCK, just think of Leading Edge Technology, Toshiba, eMachines, you get the picture.

However to my knowledge NEC still makes great quality monitors although these days you get the most bang for your buck with KDS since they usually have SONY guts inside but the KDS name on the outside. Will someone back me up on this or slap me around and correct me? Thanks.

If I had to choose between the Samsung 17-inch and NEC 17-inch, I'd definitely go with NEC. But I'd NEVER buy an NEC computer.

You can get the KDS VS-7i for about $160+tax, pricematch it at Staples with Office Depot(no way they can refuse to PM with them unless it's out of stock) for $199 and use a $40 off $150. This is a much better deal since you get free shipping compared to $43 at Buy.com(Ouch!). If you have the money I would go for the Avitron with the FD Trinitron tubes. I have a KDS at home and a Dell at work that uses these tubes and can't stand looking at anything else.

don't bother with pointclick, they are out of money, plus they are only paying 5% now, not 10%. but don't give them your business, as they have not sent checks out from july, let alone august.

I don't understand the negativity on this forum concerning Staple's as I never encountered any problem with them. I have many times used a discount coupon and still received my rebates. Here is another good example. I just ordered a KDS VS-7I 17" monitor priced at $211.49 and they priced matched Multiwave $179.39 that included the shipping cost and then I used a $40 off $150 coupon and got the monitor for a total of $139.39 +tax.

kimdani1,
I am totally agree with you about how good that radius 17" monitor is because I have one, and got around $200 awhile back, too. It was and still is a great deal!!! I can never imagin I can own a professional digital image profing monitor with that price, eventhogh it is an entry level one.

acedaddy323,
Monitor (in a very general sense) depands on the dpi, refresh rate, resolution, and the tube they are using. Get a software called the "display mate" to test and you have too see for yourself, even with the same model # monitor will produce the different result.

I personally would prefer a monitor more than 19" like 21", eventhough it may not be a Trinitron tube, I don't think you will regrate it.....make sure you got good dpi .25 and lower the lower the better.

P.S. the refresh rate should at least be 75Hz, with its highest resolution or a resolution you feel confirtable working with.
