Here's another Pmatch with staples deal... The Cannon N1220U scanner is listed at 199 on thier site... price match it to *EDIT* amazon.com link provided below, use 40 or 30 off 150 add free TV or attache case and the deal gets nicer. Looking around for a MIR cannon usually has a MIR on everything somewhere. I'll update if and when I find one. *EDIT* no MIR haven't tried adding ebates, or MC exclusive or whatever. If you still have a $150 GC from MCI to use on mazon.com this scanner comes practically free with no price matching needed for those of us without the GC the pricematch is still a great price.

Oh here's the specs on the scanner...

Product Specifications
Scanner Type Flatbed
Resolution 1200 x 2400
Bit Depth 42-bit
Max Document Size 8.5" x 11.7"
Interface USB
Dimensions 10.1" x 14.7" x 1.3"
Software Included:
PhotoStudio 2000, ArcSoft PhotoBase, ScanSoft OmniPage OCR and Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE

According to Canon's website, they call this a 600x1200 scanner, but in the description say 1200x2400. Which is correct? Anyone have experience with this scanner? I want to know how it stacks up against the Epson Perfection 1200U which is prolly the best in that price range. I have a Canon 620P right now that gives good scans but is sooooo slow it is a pain to scan full page...I mean it is slooooow! If this baby gives me a definite boost in speed I may try this deal.

every site I've seen says the scanner is 1200X2400. Haven't checked cannon's site yet since ran into a little bit of work I had to do real quick.. let me check though.

okay I checked Canon's site and there is a typo on the very first three lines... probably a cut and paste error since many of the scanners has 600X1200 listed there on the first line. BUT it's listed on the very same page as 1200X2400 optical resolution scanning about 5 times or so if you read on for further product specifications with a mximum resolution of 9600X9600 dpi. This ia a FAST scanner and comes with 5ft of USB cable. I'm still looking for a rebate but I'm not seeing rebates for anything listed on the site.. anyone want to help me look for one so that this deal can go from good to sweet mother of jesus falming hot?

I visited that pcsuperdeal site and no where is any scanner shown. Sure they have a price listed on pricewatch but they have nothing on their site. Now, my question is if Staples can't see any page with a listed price will they PM? Is a tiny listing on Pricewatch.com enuff for them to PM?

I just got off the phone with the CSR from PCsuperdeal and they don't list alot of thier products on ther website she said you have to phone in order. Anyhow staples iwll price match to that pricewatch add and if there is any doubt you can have the staples CSR call PCsuperdeal at 800-294-2613 and they will price match then. No biggie for a $90 savings and a free TV ot case.

Just called Staples CSR, cheapest I could get this shipped out was ~$142 after $40 off coupon. The lowest 'overnight' shipping charge from the two sites was $25 which really inflated the costs.

Call staples again you are getting an unscrupulous CSR. Shipping for orders over $50 are free and says so on thier website. And if you add it to the basket directly from thier website it says "(You get free shipping) Get free shipping when you spend $50 or more!" So don't let them pull that crap on you. Just call again till you get a decent CSR from staples to speak with and that will give you free shipping. Heck I got free shipping with the ELSA geforce order I did the other day and everyone else paid the 5.50 shipping and handling fees.

Just tried again, talked to CSR Steve this time. Says they have to charge shipping in pricematch so the lowest they can go is $181.48 before any coupons. This sucks!

i think that the 1200u is 36 bit while it's "replacement" is the 1240u which as far as i can see has 42 bit color depth and a matrixCCD for a line reading device. i guess that the matrix implies faster read times as illustrated in the epson specs. my question is whether the color depth and slightly faster speed is worth more i guess that the 1200 and be had for 150 and i think you can get the 1240u for around 175 both without shipping? i really want an adequate yet not bottom of the line in optical resoln. for a scanner to do both work/hobby/home use. any thoughts for those looking as this thread and have much more practical experience.

i forgot to mention on attractive feature of the 1200 over the 1240 is the auto document feature available for the older model and by the way both have a 4x5" transp. adapter. it makes for a better auto ocr system with the 1200u. just a little addition.

there all good and the 1220 is 42 bit depth as well. there is more detailed specs on Canon's site and soon as I find the link again to that I'll post it. as far as getting charged shipping send the CSR here as this is the policy that describes the free shipping for ANY order.. no matter whether it's a pricematch order or not.. over $50. If anyone else get's a rude CSR just call back untill you get one that listens to reason and will look at the policy, I've had some refuse to look at the policy page even when they were clearly wrong. I called and got it for $116+tax and the attache case since I got the TV with my Geforce 2 order.

HumblePie, you own this thread sideways!!!

I've been looking for a good price on this exact scanner for months! I was about to give up and just buy it at Best Buy for a crazy price of $199 when you show up and throw this **HOT HOT** deal up!!!

I just got off the phone with a CSR named Jason and he took only a minute to check Amazon's price, plugged in my code for both the TV and $40 off. My scanner will be here tomorrow for a total of $125 (because of tax) with the TV following in about four days after (because of restocking but still free shipping).

Seriously, you need to edit the header of this thread to read HOT HOT HOT deal!!!

This is by far one of the best scanners out there!

i should clarify, but when i read the original posts i immediately turned my attention for this good deal to whether or not the epson 1200u or 1240u would be a better purchase. any more thoughts on these two compared. thanks and sorry for the confusing post.

Mpguy, I think there are plenty of reviews out there for you to make your own decision on this deal.

Truth be told, I don't think you'll find an Epson at this price (plus a TV or an Attache).

CybrShrk made the effort to give you a link to someone's personal review.

Either/Or, you'd best hurry before Staples figures this one out too and brings the smack down like the GeForce2 card deal.

kinchii,

i did read the review and that is what prompted my previously ambiguous posts. i was simply trying to solicit more opinions on peoples personal experience with the 1200u and 1240u from epson vs. the canon as the review cited indicated that the epson scanners where clearly superior. i know the canon is a great deal but the epson scanners can both be had for aroun 165 pre shipping. also could you include or someone a link on how to get the tv or attache with the scanner from staples?

i was also looking at the canon site and there where no specs as to max optical density. both epsons had 3.0Dmax and i was hoping for a little more dynamic range. any more thoughts on this?

Cripes, I just recived my scanner yesterday and the morons at the San Marcos, TX Staples shipped the N650U!!

The invoice printout and the sticker on the box have different model numbers and they still got it wrong!

I called a CSR and let him know; seems now it'll get here within two weeks. :|

Well, I wanted to scann a bunch of pics and burn it on CD as a cheapo Christmas gift, so, for their punishment, I
ripped open the wrong scanner and am using it while waitin for the correct model to arrive!

Ha! Have at j00!

I kept trying to get the deal as described. I called about 6 times all with the same results. Got pissed, took some time to chill, tried again and it's out of stock. I was pleased to find out my wife picked me up the Epson Perfection 1240U Photo from Amazon for Christmas. Can you say "STOKED!"?

I got mine months ago (august) when some saint (idiot) put the wrong price up in the Staples B&M store. Got it for $99.00! And it rocks!
