Hot(?) deal on a HP Media Center computer at ComputerGeeks

I'd have to say that this is not a bad price for a Media Center PC, the components alone would be worth close to that.

no they didnt raise the price, there is a "secret geek saving code" for a $100 off the price, the code was sent out via email to those on their email list, code can also be gotten at various websites. Same system locally sells for 1079.

they also have this one for 599. Specs stink compared to the HP but I would rather have it sitting in my living room. It looks a lot better in my opinion.

I agree. That case looks like it belongs in an entertainment unit.

Yea, that Gateway looks awesome! Wish it had the same specs as the HP though: I don't really care for the Celly...

This doesn't mention what kind of TV Tuner it uses.

Also, I think it's funny people put 200GB drives in their HTPC. Just add a DVDRW. If you run out of space on an 80GB drive, you'll run out of space on a 200GB drive soon after.

I just called the number ((1) (800) 336-3300 in the United States ) and they said it would only cost $9.95 to upgrade to MCE 2005

FYI: I've bought over 50+ items from computer geeks (refurbed and new) and rarely does refurbed stuff ever look used. Everything except for 1 stick of ram (sold as new) has worked perfectly out of the box.

We'll, if you have ever used media center, the files are friggin huge. If i remember right, it takes approximately 3.5 gigs or so to record one hour of tv. After partitioning & windows & application installations, you are down to 70 gigs. For those people who are computer illterate, I think that installing a dvd drive might be a bit like doing brain surgery for them.

If I had money, I would probably jump on the 549 deal. Media center with remote runs 130-150 & a decent tv tuner that works with media center runs at least 100. So all in all not to bad of a deal.
