I was there today (West Palm Beach, FL) and they have a Western Digital 7200 rpm, Ultra ATA 66, 20 gig hard drive for 99.99. Plus there is a $40.00 mail in rebate dropping it to $59.99 plus tax. Check your local Sams Club (if you have one). From what I understand, not all locations will have this so good luck. Ape Out

Sam's Club HDDs are retail boxes, and the rebate is through Sam's, so you couldn't just pricematch it and then still get the rebate.

Isn't that $99 after rebate? I just bought one two weeks ago at Sam's Club and it was $139 - $40 rebate. I'm really going to hate life if that price dropped that much.

I picked up one yesterday at Sam's in Whitehall, PA for $99.98....Minus $40.00 rebate from Sam's September rebate flyer and a $10 off $50 Discovercard coupon good at Sam's I had mailed to me = $49.98
It is the retail box Western Digital 20.5 Gigabyte 7200 RPM (WD205BARTL) Sam's SKU #294614 They had plenty in stock from what I could tell looking at the lockup area.
I almost bought this at another Sam's last week at $139, glad I waited!

I called the Sams here in Rochester NY at 11 am today, they had 37 of them. I got to the store at 12:30 and they had 6 left. I grabbed one, 99.98 minus 40.00 mail in rebate, retail boxed 7200 rpm series. Fantastic..and nice deal. THANKS!

The potential deal is this:

Price match with Staples including MIR.

In the store you can do this with a little persistance. I think there may be a manufacturer's rebate, as well.

One deal further. Do it all via a CSR and apply a coupon. We have never tried to do a PM with a MIR online. We have done it at the store.

I think you would be pushing your luck to do the PM with a MIR AND an online coupon at the B&M. However, our Staples Manager probably would do it. I think most would give you the Circuit City type runaround.

Is there a confirmation that Staples carries the exact product online? We are searching the site and the one we have come up with doesn't have a picture of the box. Also, you may get the runaround with a CSR that they can't PM an IM product. If so, keep calling until you get another CSR.

Here's my plan:

Buy 1 WD205BARTL and claim the Sam's Club $40 rebate.
Buy another and claim the manufacturer's rebate (good through 11/11).

I'll have one for myself, and the other would be easy to sell at a nice profit, or to use in a system build, or whatever ...

Okay, I need some help from someone that is a tech head. I went to buy.com and the wd205BARTL number is associated with an
Ultra ATA-66 as opposed to the DMA66 listed in the original post.

The problem you often run into with Staples is that they have skimpy descriptions and often don't list model numbers etc.

Rebate is in Sam's September rebate flyer, they usually hand it to you as you walk in the door.
$40 Rebate is for purchases between September 1 and September 30, 2000
Mail the bottom half of your receipt (it says ***Rebate Receipt*** on it) along with UPC from package, postmarked by October 10, 2000
*Some packages may have a rebate offer printed on or attached to box. If you redeem rebate through this program, Include any on-pack rebate form with your submission. Both rebates cannot be redeemed.

Sam's has it for 79.98 after rebate. We could not get the Kentucky call center to price match Sam's. The first call they would price match before rebate but not after rebate - after some persistance. Then in a second call that went to the same call center they said they wouldn't price match Sam's at all.

However, your store will price match it at 79.98 with persistance if they carry it. You can also get a 30.00 off rebate from Western Digital. Our local Sam's is out of the cheaper hard drive so that wasn't an option. We haven't checked to see if Sam's online carries it to use that for a price match.

Tomorrow we call the office of the President about the price matching policy as it clearly states
ANYWHERE FROM ANYBODY and we want to use our stackable coupons that we got in the mail.

How much is the manufacturers rebate for? If Staples has this product in B&M it would be awesome. Hehe, just bring your copy of their PMing policy and stick it down their throat. $60 without rebate(maybe less if you're ambitious enough to go for the coupons).

Rebate from WD is 30 for all the hard drives that Sam's is doing a rebate on at the current time. The CSR supervisor claims their policy says not to pricematch Sam's. I argued that the price policy says ANYWHERE BY ANYBODY. She said you are right but
you will have to call corporate to get it. Also, remember that the price match policy that we have is for the stores AND it is an old policy. Can't remember the date but it seems like it was from last year. They could have changed the policy. Our local Staples just forks over the deals for a friend of mine without hassle. He knows she will eventually get what she wants anyway...LOL
