Kango: after being told it was out of stock once, at Staples, I got another CSR to take my order! This was at about 4:00 today. Don't give up yet!

Thanks to Ape, Tr0ll, Bandita, and everyone else who contributed to this thread. I now know what it takes to get a deal from Staples. I talked to about 5 csr's over 2 days. I was kept on hold for long periods. Was told that the SAM's people said it wasn't in stock or that they don't carry computer components minutes after I verified everything with them. Was told that Staples was out of stock. But the last CSR I talked to just put everything through in a few minutes. When I asked for a price match she put me on hold for about 30 seconds. When I said "coupon" she said "what's the number?"

Thanks again.

Crazy Staples!

After 8 trials (I am not giving up), one lady CSR took my order
but onhold for stock verification with Sams Club.

Hope they have it.

I took this as I need 3 of them. ($100+ savings matters)

Wish me

Just want to say thanks to the guy who found this deal. This is the first time I've done a deal from this or any forum.

Details:

Most of the Sams here in the Houston area are out of stock. Told the guy at Sams about the PM with Staples and he said he would not volunteer any information about the HD being out of stock (would not lie if asked though). Got his name and number. Called Staples and gave them that number and name. She called while I was on hold, said deal was good, $99.99 - $25 coupon - $30 WD rebate + tax. It'll be here Tuesday.

I'm diggin on this bargain stuff.

SALUTE APE!!

If you have not done the deal, why not? I wish I could go and do it again!

I got CSR in KY to match at $79.99 for IM1009780. Staples site says this is OEM, but CSR claims retail. If it is WD300BBRTL or WD3007AARTL, you are looking at $80+$5(ship)+$5(tax)-$25(cpn)-$30(mir)=$35!!! For a 30.7GB to go in my soon to be 44 hour TiVo! (Won free from www.tivo.com thx to Bandito/Bandita...Are they the same person? Has anyone REALLY seen them in the same place at the same time?)

Call STAPLES and the worst you can do is NOT get the deal!! If no rebate, $65 is still good and at the least you can get, $95 which is not horrible ($119 at Sam's without rebate - $25 coupon).

Congratulations on the price match with MIR. I am interested to hear how hard it was for you. I am very glad that someone else was able to pull it off with Staples. I love to read Staples War Stories. It makes me feel better that I am not the only one that gets the run around from "Staples Is Suck".

By the way, no we are not the same person and I am also not the Bandito posting on another forum on the diaper deal who posted a picture of his kid.

Also, don't necessarily trust what that CSR told you. There was an IM number for a retail product and one for an OEM product. I don't know if I listed the IM number for the one I ordered but it was in a retail box and it said retail box. My advise is to call back and ask them to document that you were told that it was in a retail package. Then if it comes in an OEM package you have something to negotiate with for a 'sweetener'

I have been in contact with Staples over the D-link matter and got some more information. Just by chance I got the same supervisor "Heather" that had turned me down that Sunday on a price match with Sams. She said an official memo came out as of last Thursday that they are to price match Sams. So if you are still having a problem do it one more time. Write down the name of the CSR and the Supervisor - tell them you know there is an official policy - when they turn you down ask the Supervisor to transfer you to the Office of the President. By the way, you should hope you get turned down because people have been known to get an extra bonus when their order is screwed up by the incompetence of the .com people.

Whether you can get the price match with MIR will still be a 'results will vary' scenario.

By the way, there should be no shipping charge on this deal.

I just tried for the 30 gig. They wouldn't PM because of the sam's mail in rebate. They would only match it at $119. How did you guys get around that?

Ok, here's my Staples story:

Called one day last week and asked to have them price match Sam's for $59.99--scans for $99 with a $40 rebate for a total of $59.99. I was put on hold and when the CSR came back she would only match the $99. I thought about it for a second and gave up.

The next day I was just sitting around, so I decided to try again. I figured that worst case $45 after coupon and rebate was a good deal for the 20 gig. I called and asked them to match to the final price of $59 (I didn't specifically break it out. I just said my final price for the drive from Sam's after all was said and done was $59.) I was put on hold and when she came back she said ok. So I added the disposable camera and a box of paperclips to get it over $75, used the $25 off $75 coupon and then used the free camera coupon. Everything went through. My final price after rebate is $8.42.

I would have said something sooner, but everyone said that they cancel orders after accepting them, so I really didn't expect to receive the drive, but it finally showed up today.

I guess the point is that you might as well try one last time if you couldn't get it to work the first time. Worst case is that you get it for about $45.

If only *I* had a 20 gig 7200 rpm wd drive!
Could I still pm this if the nearest sams club is 25 miles away from here? Would the CS care?
Thanks

eyor, I think the sale is good till the end of the month (?), just find out the phone number of the store in case the CSR wants to call the store, and make sure that Sam's has some in stock and still for $99.99.

I went to the Sam's store in Joplin, Mo this afternoon and the fellow working the computer area was most helpful. Thye are out in Joplin, but he contacted Springfield, Mo store and they had 8 in stock. He also contacted the Tulsa, OK store and people there must not buy drives. They still had 34 in stock. Springdale, the home of Wal-mart, had none. The guy who helped me had no idea the prices were scanning lower than te posted prices, so he checked to see if it did. Bottom line is that yes, it reads $99.95 ... but out of stock and no more will be coming. However, he did tell me they were getting some 30 gig and 45 gigs in and told me the price on those too. I said he better check because the price list he had showed the wrong, not as scanned, price on the 20 gigs. he did and said basically the same thing was going on with the 45 and 30 gig. I think he said the 30 gig was going to register as $119.95, and if the rebate was still good when they got in, the after rebate price would be $79.95. I cannot remember exactly, but as I recall, the 45 gig was going to run about $20 more. he had no idea if the rebate would be extended, but there are rebates of $30 given by the drive manufacturer on some in stock drives, so maybe a 45 gig can be had for about $120 or so. Good luck all. Daniel

I bought 3 of this drives from sams. One through my daugher who's sams card is on my account, and two more myself on separate receipts. As I was filling out the rebate forms, I noticed that your member number is required, and it is also printed on the rebate receipt. I have separate addresses to send them to, but are they going to track them by member number as well? Anybody had any experience with this. Oh well, if I don't get the rebates I will just return these suckers.

I don't know what the rebate deal is or whether it applies to Sam's merchandise. I just went to the WD site and read a description of the various drives and all said, in small print disclaimer, that the mail in rebate does not apply. But, that contradicts the packaging for the drives because the drives have a peel off label stating $30 rebate. The ones sold at Sam's have this same label. I would think they would have to honor any that were marketed in that package. Sure hope so since I was intending to buy one today.

Just in case anybody is interested, the sales clerk at Sam's says they have a 30 gig 7200 rpm that is coming in. It is supposed to be priced at $159 before the rebate, if there is one. Good luck all.

Wrong Calagar, if you read thru this thread Western Digital will accept the $30 rebate from Sam's. But it's a mute point now as PennState has posted that the new October Sam's Rebate flyer has a $30 rebate in it.
