For anyone with astigmatism I can highly recommend the CIBA Focus Torics if your power is <= -6.00... torics used to be obscenely priced but I get a box of 6 of these (1-month lenses) for $45 at Wal-Mart and they are very comfortable, and you get a fresh lens every month. I can usually stretch mine to 2 months (they actually used to be sold as 2 or 3 month lenses, can't remember) and are the best I've seen at accuracy for the lens weighting (axis) which as you fellow astig folks know is the really the most important thing for torics.

Note that these are daily-remove lenses, dunno if there are any decently priced extended-wear torics avail. Don't really trust em anyway...

BUMP.

I had this thread bookmarked a year ago, and I'm glad it's still around.

I ordered from Vision Direct about a month ago or so, and I wasn't particularly thrilled about dealing with them. The coupon subtracted $3.90 rather than $5, shipping took a while, and when they did arrive, they came in a tiny NON-discrete box that was NOT sealed - meaning, anyone could have just open up the box since there was no seal/tape and just take the contents... worse yet, they could have easily fallen out. I'd be hesitant to order from them again in the future

Madcowz:

Hopefully that's an isolated incident. I've always been treated well by Vision Direct.

Review: CIBA Focus Night & Day (previously using PureVision)

Packaging: Focus packaging is more efficient. You'll have to touch the interior surface of the lens to scoop it out of its well. It was possible to avoid this with PureVisions.

The Lens: For a given prescription, Focus lenses are thinner than PureVisions. Focus lenses (Fluorosilicone hydrogel) are also more slippery to hold than PureVisions (Silicone hydrogel). It's like grabbing a slippery live fish, but you'll get used to it.

Daily Wear: The Focus lenses were immediately more comfortable than the PureVisions. My eyes started watering after about two hours, so I took them out. I wore them for two hours the next day. The third day was all day wear and they felt great. My eyes felt less tired and less irritable after lens removal, though not completely absent.

The Onion Test: My eyes did not water when cutting onions with Purevisions or the Focuses. Too bad. The Focuses are touted as having very high oxygen transmission (175 Dk/t), versus PureVision (110 Dk/t) and ACUVUE2 (35 Dk/t). Still, all lenses block some oxygen.

I use Focus Night & Days for daily wear. Excellent lenses. Try them out!

ahh great set of information

im planning to get Focus Night&Day. I have several questions.

#1.I heard you still have to take Night & Day lens out and cleanse it , is this true? or do u continuasly wear it for 30 days and nights?

#2. is Waveform the way to go with lasik? should i not even think about $200/eye lasiks?

#3. cheapest place to get them? (if you know that is, im searching for it on my own as well.)

okay i've been wearing contacts for almost 7 years maybe 8. I used to wear Activue when i first started these things worked pretty good i was able to sleep with them for 2 nights in a row at times. I think they were 2 week lenses. Then I think I switch to Octiview some contacts from europe they were monthly. I never had major problems.

I went to boot camp and wore glasses for 14 weeks. I get back put my contacts in my eyes would get irritated every month. So I switched perscription to Focus night and days they worked for a cuple days then my cornea would get "scratched" so I stopped wearing them overnight. Still I would have problems even with a brand new pair my cornea would scratch I wouldn't be able to wear contacts for about a week.

Recently I had to switch to something else. I'm now using focus dailies. These are the only thing lately that work. They are a tad bit more expensive. I like them though. Just thought I would share my experiences with you guys.

My glass frame broke on 12/31/2003. I got an exam for contact lens and glasses then decided on contacts to get vision asap. I've used Acuvue before and was recommended Acuvue 2 this time. I've always accepted that contacts are slightly uncomfortable and the dry eye feeling is normal. Well, as it turns out I have borderline astigmatism causing blurry double-vision in left eye and slight blurryness in right eye. A different doctor from the same office redid the exam. Turns out that switching contact lens brand made it much more comfortable and my vision is now sharper. I forget what brand she mentioned but it's slightly thicker and helps with those with slight astigmatism. I'll find out the details when I go in again this week to trade my year supply of Acuvue 2. So, the moral of the story is don't be afraid to get reexamined by a different doctor. What is popular doesn't necesarrily mean it's the right contacts for you. Ask about the different brands and don't hestitate to try. There are contact lens that are comfortable and that don't give the dry eye feeling.

Most importantly. If you've found a great eye doctor support him/her by buying through them if the price difference if negligible.

Some tips. Try not to sleep with contacts in. Remove them every night to air out your eyes. You'll get unattractive permanent little red veins running all over your eyes if you wear overnight for too long.

I've been wearing Focus Night & Day contact lenses for about three months now. That's three different pairs, one each month.

I really like them and would recommend them to anyone who hates hassling with the daily insertion/removal of contact lenses.

I usually wear each pair for a week straight, then let them soak in a mulit-purpose cleaning solution overnight. The pair I am currently wearing have been in constantly for almost two weeks, and they are still as comfortable as they were when I first put them in.

Be aware that if you do sleep with them in overnight, that when you wake up in the morning your eyes will be a little dry. Just a couple rewetting drops in each eye and I'm good to go for the day. Without the drops I found it takes 2-3 minutes for my eyes to lubricate themselves to the point where I don't notice any discomfort.

Hope this helps those who are interested in these lenses...

I typically use CLE Contact lenses. $13.95 per box for CooperVision Encore Sphere (which my ophthalmologist recommended if one stares at a screen for long periods of time) lenses.

Believe Acuvue runs $12.50 per box.

Shipping is typically not free (unless you order over $100, then shipping is included), but reasonable (approximately $3.95); or, if you live in the city, they do allow local pickup (E 52nd Street & 5th).

Also, as a continuing customer, one receives 1% off each subsequent order, up to a total of 10%. Rebates and coupons (published on their site) are also plentiful.

Does anyone know if visiodirect.com actually calls the doctors? I have no idea who I went to. I lost my glasses one night at a concert and went to a random place in SD. I will be out of my focus dailies soon and I'm basically looking for the exact lens I wear now.
