I just received an email from Kodak and they are closing out their accessories for the DC4800 camera. The best deal is their DC4800 Accessory Value Package which includes the custom case for the camera, two of the rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries, the Lithium Ion Battery Charger, and a neck strap. All for just $29.99! The case alone sells for $50 on their web site. Shipping is just $4.95.

I couldn?t find this deal by going though their web site so here is the direct link provided in my email. Get em while they are in stock!

Thanks for posting...great deal. Just ordered it myself. The charger alone is worth the price.

I paid $49 for just the battery and charger last year. I am waiting for those lenses to drop in price.

Good Deal!

Well, I couldn't resist on this one. The one thing that has been a problem with my camera has been relatively short battery life and this should fix that. And I can't believe the price, $34 shipped, thanks Chief Wahoo.

On another note, for anyone who has this camera (DC4800), have you upgraded to the latest bios version (1.04 I believe)? I'm asking this because my camera currently takes absolutely horrible indoor pictures and I'm hoping that the software update will correct this. Initially I thought it was because of a screwed up setting but I've tried several different focus and exposure modes and the results are all the same, ghosting and improper focus.

You may want to check some of the discussion forums (i.e. StevesDigicams, DPReview, etc.). I was having similar issues with indoor pictures, and found some good advice about manual settings. This helped tremendously (still not perfect, but much much better). I had heard the biggest thing the new bios does is prevent the camera from locking up (which it has done to me a couple of times). I wish I had better links to the appropriate forums for you, but you can probably find them if you look a little bit.

Sweet deal! I bought the Expansion Pack or whatever they called it a year and half ago from Amazon for $99. That included the bag w/ strap, Fast-charger, extra battery and lens pen. This new deal includes an extra battery. Sweet!!

Regarding the new firmware, I had the original firmware (1.0.0 or 4.0.0, I can't remember the numbering scheme) which didn't have any issues with indoor shooting, but the most noticable difference for me was this yellow icon that appears for a few seconds on the LCD screen when I'm shooting in detail or landscape mode. Kinda annoying in my opinion, but I can live with it. I guess it does help remind me that I've left the camera in one of those modes. Other than that, I see no additional increase or decrease in performance.

Just picked one up. Also picked up an 50-pack of Kodak Ultima 80-min CD blanks for $15. Didn't increase the shipping cost. Kodak CDs are tough as nails!

Thanks for the heads up Chief Wahoo!

I just ordered one and I don't even have a Kodak camera. This battery interchanges with the one in my Fuji.

As an FYI this battery setup should work in the following:

Fuji Finepix 6900, 6800 Zoom Camera
Fuji Finepix 4900, 4800 Zoom Camera
Fuji MX-2900, 2700, 1700 Digital Camera
Leica Digilux Zoom
Kodak DC4800
Ricoh RDC 6000, i700, i500, 7
Toshiba PDR M70, M60, M5, M4

Thank you SearchMaster and seribellum for the tips, I'll check on using different techniques. If I can get the camera working well indoors, then I'll be completely satisfied with the overall performance of it.

Wow that is a good price. Too bad I just bought a charger and two batteries from somewhere else for a lot more

Even though the item was listed as "In Stock" when I placed my order, the follow-up email I received a few minutes later said that the item was backordered.

Hmmm... I've waited this long, I guess I can wait a little while longer...

I want a tip on getting a decent addon "External Flash" for the DC4800... which is its one flaw ... the built in flash is somewhat "weak".

Thanks! I think I'll have to order one just for the spare batteries - already have the charger from an expansion pack purchased last year.

If only they included an extra lens cap to replace the one I lost before I even had the chance to buy a cord to attach it to the camera - something that would have been nice to include with the camera in the first place...or a spare back casing since the included one is so prone to cracking around the display - mine is finally starting to show the signs of this.

Yeah, I got a similar message but it didn't have the "backordered" status on it. I placed my order on 7/18 and haven't received an updated email since the original order confirmation email.

PullMyFinger,
I also ordered on the 18th....
"Your order, which we received on Jul 18, 2002"

I called and they told me a "ballpark" date of stock would come back on July 25th... maybe longer... or less..

Damned backorders, oh well, that gives me time to update the stinking firmware. I can't seem to get it to do anything. I've tried both the direct connection method and the picture card method and neither way works. The direct connection method keeps telling me the CF card is not installed in the camera but it is and it's empty. The CF card reader method won't let me transfer the upgrade file onto the card, keeps saying the card is write protected but there is no way of un-write protecting it. Anybody have any hints?

Where do you find the new firmware?

Thanks for the deal! I got mine yesterday. I've had very good luck with the battery life on my DC4800 (a friend has had very poor luck), but with these two extras, along with my 256MB CF card, I should *never* have a problem taking as many pictures as I want.

Try this link for DC4800 firmware. If it doesn't work, go to the main Kodak page and search for "DC4800 firmware" and follow the links. I haven't tried flashing yet, so wish me luck.

Well, I just rec'd my order and had a little surprise. According to the invoice, I was charged $9.89 for shipping, not the $4.95 that registered when going through check out. Also, I was dinged for sales tax, another item which was not listed at purchase. I'm contacting Kodak to ask for a refund.

Did this happen to anyone else?
