btw, this is a repost, but it's always good to remind people of deals. i went down to the "store" in san jose to buy my stuff (including a gc68 and as3 which they gave me for the price of as2), and they asked if i found out about them through anandtech, because when people post this they get hammered

Directron has round cables cheap too. $4 and up, I got ata 133 ribbon cable for $1. They are $14.95 at compusa.

edit: dang those ata 133 ribbon cables are now .25 cents:Q

Haven't received my order yet. In fact they state that orders might take 3 business days to ship after it is placed, which these days is a long time to process the order and get it to the shipper.

They had a good price on the enermax whisper psu I wanted though, which is why ordered from them. It is a somewhat new model (FCA) which has a manual exhaust fan speed setting and a mobo controlled intake fan. I only ordered the rounded cables as an afterthought but I thought I'd mention it as an alternative source.

Yes, ATA133 is used for the latest and greatest HD's. May as well go with the ATA133 if you have the choice.

this is not true at all. it may seems that it allows air to circulate better, but it definatly won't cool off your system any better than the old flat ide.

be aware, these rounded cables are actually hard to fold it up compares to the flat ide. this can be a problem if you have a mid or mini tower.

there's no reason to buy these things except for the looks. other than that it has no any other added value to your system. these manufactures knew that and had to say it allows better air flow to attract buyers.

after all said, i got 1 anyway just for the looks. It goes pretty good with my red msi mb.

also, it seems like all the ide cables are going to be rounded soon. for example, microcenter only carries rounded ide cables for ata-100 +

This is just wrong. The cables help airflow because there is less space being taken up in your system, thus they allow your system to cool down easier. I would have to say 50 people saying it helps airflow vs. 1 saying it doesn't kind of tells you what the truth is.

I don't recall where I saw it, but an actual test was done that showed no effect on cooling using round cables compared to flat. I have them because they look cool.
