If you're looking to confirm it quickly, Vista shows the model number of the drive in its driver installation status. (HTS722020K9SA00 - is the 7K200)

No problemo! And to think this was an AWESOME deal without the coupon, now I just can't find a word to describe it hehe

well ..thanks ..was getting a bit aggravated w/vista home premium on my now default laptop(MT6840 already had swapped 2x1GB Crucial ddr2 667 into it) ..so instead of napping on Sat afternoon did the hr roundtrip to bb w/ coupon in pocket..was 3 DTG lined up behind the shelftag and someone had stashed another behind the 160GB lineup..grabbed that one ..whilst @work today (after lining up all the xp drivers/infs and nliteing sp2/intel sata drivers into an xppro retail cd) swapped the wd 160 5.4k out/into the pretty Hitachi enclosure and the 7.2k 200 into the Gateway..success

picked one up, tested in in Sisoft and the benchmarks were pretty good, then I opened up hd tach and hd tune and both listed about 11.3megs per second max, same thing for my other drives, for some reason it seems either running one of those benchmarks or something else switched my usb to 1.1 instead of 2.0. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why that would have happened (and how to fix it?)

This deal was on Fat Wallet weeks ago. I'm thinking the Best Buy couldn't possibly have any of these left. The Madison west side store only had serial numbers starting with WGH. At lunch I took a drive over to the east side store and they had two DTG serial number packages. Score! I opened the enclosure and sure enough, it's the 7200 rpm drive. Thanks to all posters for posting your recent finds. Because of you, I kept looking.

Dang! I went to the west side store yesterday and was going to go to the east store today - did you buy both drives, or was there still one left?

Still one left (at least at noon on Monday). Get there quick!

You could always drive down to Janesville. It's only about 30-40 minutes down I-90.

Definately see a major improvement over my existing Hitachi 160gb 5400rpm drive. Only issue I ran into was having to do a clean install of Vista. I tried cloning all partitions on my Dell XPS 1210, but Media Direct wouldn't run. So Dell support said the only way MD would work is by reinstalling Windows. A pain in the backside, but a fresh install seems to make everything cleaner. I went from a boot up (and full program load) of 1 min 30 secs to just under a minute. Programs load up quicker too. Many thanks to whoever started this thread!!!

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 and had the 160 Gb 5400 drive. I also see a major speed-up with this drive. I was able to clone my old drive but I didn't actually get around to trying MediaDirect yet.

Dell is clueless. I ran into the same problem when I had the m1210 and found a solution for it. I can't remember what I did, but you can look for it on notebookforums.

I just picked up one of these at the Oakdale, MN Best Buy, and they have at least one more. Great deal! I already checked mine out by USB on my Windows PC at work, and it's definitely a 7K200. This thing will go into my Macbook, when I install Leopard.

Any theories out there why Hitachi put a $250 retail drive into an enclosure that BB sells for $142 marked on the receipt as "5400 PATA"? It's almost like either someone screwed up (probably BB because it doesn't say 5400 PATA on the package), or perhaps Hitachi has overstock?

My guess is that they are clearing out the 1.5 SATA drives for the 3.0 SATA Drives.

P.S. There were 3 in 27408 but now only one, and one that was not DTG.

Thanks for a great deal!

HTS722020K9SA00 = SATA 1.5
HTS722020K9A300 = SATA 3.0

but the A300 drives aren't even out yet. Why would they clear out drives that are still top of the line?

I just picked up a DTG from the Manchester, Connecticut Best Buy and can confirm that these are indeed the 7200rpm 200gb models. Whoohoo! There were 2 more left on the shelf when I left. Also my old 120gb 5400rpm Seagate fit perfectly inside the case, so now I have backup!

My Mini needed this, thanks OP!

Yup, the long sticker on the bottom has two Philips #2 screws underneath it; you can either peel it up or just stick your screwdriver on it and push until you find them. Unscrew them, then use an Exacto knife to pry off the bottom plate. Don't pull UP too much since the plate is attached by horizontal clips - pull it up a bit then slide it forward. Once the lid is off, just remove the logic board from the hard drive by unscrewing the two screws on it. You can reuse another drive in it; I put a 120gb 5400rpm drive from my laptop in it and it works great for backup

If anyone wants to get in on this deal a little late, they should check their local BestBuy for new inventory. AND, the price is now $129.99 online.

DTG or DEG serial numbers mean 7,200 RPM super drives.
