Go to buy.com and click on wireless (it's new) Then find the nokia 8260 Cellular phone. Add it and select an AT&T Calling plan (to get your $50 rebate). Add your favorite 10 off 50 coupon found elsewhere. Don't forget to print out the PDF rebate for the phone found at the bottom of post. Here is how much it costs:

Nokia 8260: 99.99
Coupon: -10.00
-----------------------
89.99
Mail in Rebate: -50.00
-----------------------
Total 39.99

I am not sure if the coupon will work, because I haven't tried it but I am assuming that it will. Good luck. http://ak.buy.com/buy_assets/retail/pdfs/nokia_8260_rebate.pdf

it's a great phone. it's actually the slim down of the new upcoming 8890.

edit:

my bad for having the wrong information (thx to point it out Temujin ). i was actually thinking about the difference between the 8210 and 8850.

The new 8890 is a dual band phone that works in 900/1900MHz. However the phone doesn't support the digital GSM 1800MHz band . Most of features in the 88xx phones can be found in the 82xx series. The big difference between the two is the casing and the blue light (but I think you can probably tweak the 82xx to have a blue light). Yet for a couple differences you would need to pay a few hundred $$$ more. Better off with the 82xx series IMHO .

<< it's a great phone. it's actually the slim down of the new upcoming 8890. not much difference between the two except for the casing. >>

The 8260 is a TDMA phone (digital and analog). It's got 250 number memory, internal vibrate, internal battery and internal antenna... not so good in outlying areas but good in urban areas. The 8890 is the GSM 900/1900 version of this phone with a chrome case with sliding cover. The 8890 will work virtually anywhere in Europe, Hong Kong and Australia and in most major centers in Canada and the USA... and costs around US$500. Let's hope buy.com will send this out to Canadians... :Q

isn't the 8290 the GSM version or something? I forget. Well, there's a difference between the 8260 and the 8290 and it has something to do with the cellular standard somehow.

Yeah, but you still need to subscribe for a minimum of 180 days of AT&T service. Why not just stop by your local asian phone dealer(in NYC, your milage may vary elsewhere) and get that phone for free with 1 year contract?

:frown: Something's funny with buy.com. The website is claiming that NO phone is avaliable in Boston. I really like that phone... but it seems like they can't issue them in here. :frown:

Yeah, anyone know of a cheap Grey 8260 that doesn't require Activation? I've already got a DOR plan, and don't want to activate another one. Are there any trade-in deals for my 6160i?

Yep. Service activations is required, it clearly says so on the form. Perhaps the title should be altered to state that?

just called buy.com regarding no service in Boston (I know there is service here because I am an AT&T wireless customer). They say they are trying to update their database as soon as possible... BTW, their customer service is pertty good. Also tried Point.com (thanks edmeister) and the phone and service is avaliable here.
Hope they'll get this thing cleared out soon.

Damn the deal isn't availble in my area! I hate being a small town. I guess I'll just have to buy the phone for like $200 cause that's what local providers suck as Cell One are charging here.

For anyone who cares, The 8290 is the GSM version of the 8260. The 8890 is the GSM version of the 8860. The 8890 is not meant to be compared to the 8260. They are different series. Keep the 88xx and 82xx to themselves.

As far as the 8860 vs 8260, the 8260 is FAR superior in everything, from features, to reception. The 8290 is the GSM variant of the 8260 which offers some nice GSM features and X-Press on covers. It's a better phone overall, but that's mainly because it's a GSM phone, and GSM has cooler features then TDMA, which the 8260 is.

If you can't get a GSM plan, then the 8260, simply put, is the most advanced, and BEST TDMA phone for AT&T networks.
